Chitosan catalyzed synthetic procedure has been developed for the synthesis of α-hydroxy phosphonates from different aromatic aldehydes and diethyl phosphite at 60°C. The title compounds are characterized by IR, 1H, 13C, 31P NMR and mass spectral data. A novel and efficient procedure for the synthesis of alkyl phosphonates through one pot condensation of alkyl halide and tri alkyl/aryl phosphite in the presence of amberlyst-15 as catalyst under solvent free conditions was applied. A green and efficient preparation method for the amino bisphosphonates is accomplished by simple mixing and stirring of diethylphosphite, triethylorthoformate and various amines in the presence of amberlyst-15 as catalyst at room temperature under solvent free conditions.
