Recently, low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid has been reported to have novel features, such as free radical scavenging activities, antioxidant activities, promotion of excisional wound healing, etc. In the present work, degradation of native hyaluronic acid by ozone treatment was performed for preparation of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. The molecular weight of native hyaluronic acid was reduced from 1535 to 87 kDa for 120 min at 40 °C. The rate of reduction of molecular weight was 94.33%. The FT-IR, 13C NMR, and UV-vis spectra suggested that there was no obvious modification of chemical structure of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. The use of degradation of native hyaluronic acid by ozone treatment can be a useful alternative for production of low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. The overall catalytic cycle for dihydrogen activation and hydrogenation of N-methyl-acetamide (NMA) by the model catalyst (PNN)Ru(CO)(H) is presented in detail. The computational results show that the reaction occurs via metal-ligand cooperation involving aromatization/dearomatization of the PNN ligand. The catalytic cycle contains four steps involving activation of two H2, formation of the amine and formation of the alcohol. The highest free energy barrier for the whole reaction is 27.8kcal/mol, which appears in the process of formation of the amine. The overall catalytic reaction is exergonic by 10.3kcal/mol, which is the driving force for the catalytic reaction. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. Source

In this paper, using Gronwall's inequality, we investigate some delay integral inequalities on time scales, which provide explicit bounds on unknown functions. Our results unify and extend some delay integral inequalities and their corresponding discrete analogues. In this paper, effect of oxygen and pH on the browning of chitosan exposed to gamma radiation was investigated. It was found that oxygen and pH value could play important roles in the inhibiting browning of irradiated chitosan. When the pH value of chitosan solution was below 3.0, sufficient oxygen could inhibit browning of irradiated chitosan in aqueous solution. As a result of irradiation of chitosan solution (pH < 3) with sufficient oxygen, the irradiated chitosan solutions obtained were colorless and pellucid. FT-IR, 13C NMR, and UV-vis spectra confirmed that the irradiation in the presence of oxygen cannot result in chemical modification of irradiated chitosan. An effective technology was developed for the inhibition of browning of irradiated chitosan during depolymerization of chitosan by gamma irradiation. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. Source
