A Bayesian architecture for annotating, categorizing and retrieving 3D models of homogenous images given their 2D view is presented. Although the superiority of bayesian retrieval in a generic database has been studied, its ability to discriminate visually similar images, similarity being in colour, texture or shape has not been much reported. In the current work, we have established that continuous probabilistic image modeling based on mixture of Gaussians together with KL similarity measure, shows remarkable performance. For training, the characteristic view of the images is used. The features extracted are the polynomials transform coefficients. The algorithms used are simple, computationally efficient and do not require any prior segmentation. The dependence of the performance of the proposed architecture on the number of transform subspaces and the number of Gaussian mixtures has been studied. A comparative study with Daubechies wavelet shows that this architecture performs well with a small number of dimensions of transform subspaces and also with a small number of mixture of Gaussians, in addition to being fast. © 2012 Springer-Verlag. Silver nanoparticles are known to have antimicrobial activity. The green synthesis method of nanoparticle synthesis is one of the most cost effective and eco friendly method. The present study is based on the synthesis of silver nanoparticles by the self reduction of silver nitrate by the leaf extracts of Vitex negundo which is one of the novel methods used in developing nanoparticles. The characterization of the particle was done by UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy, X-ray Diffraction analysis and the size of the synthesized nanoparticle was analyzed in the Scanning Electron Microscopy. The size of the particle was found to be 56 nm. The obtained silver nanoparticles showed anti-microbial activity against E.coli and Klebsiella pneumonia. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland. Source

Even though Lloyd's algorithm is all pervasive in the design of clustering algorithms like vector quantizers (VQ), it's drawbacks are that the codebook generation time is size dependent and that the initial codebook is not a minimum distortion one. The proposed clustering technique has two objectives-the first objective is to design a codebook in a time that is size-independent and the second one is to produce a minimum distortion, high-quality initial codebook. If the image is transformed into a domain in which its elements are uncorrelated, VQ performs better and so Orthogonal Polynomials Transform (OPT) is applied earlier to vector quantization. The dimensionality reduction coupled with pruning of transform coefficients is indeed an attractive feature of this transform vector quantizer (TVQ). The performance of the proposed technique is observed in the vector space of OPT coefficients and has been compared with other VQs. Experiments done reveal the superiority of the proposed technique in terms of increased PSNR. Results also show that the Mean Squared Error (MSE) decays drastically within the first two iterations with the proposed technique. Copyright © 2011 ACM. Source

Single crystals of 8-Hydroxyquinoline have been effectively grown by slow evaporation technique. Crystalline nature of the material was confirmed using X-ray diffraction technique. Solubility and Metastable zone width studies for crystal have been studied. Optical absorption and photoconductivity property of the grown crystal were carried out. SHG efficiency of the powdered crystalline material is investigated using Q-switched Nd: YAG laser. Source

Aluminum alloys are widely used in aerospace and automobile industries owing to their low density, good mechanical properties, better corrosion and wear resistance, low thermal coefficient of expansion as compared to conventional metals and alloys. On viewing from both scientific and technological aspects, their excellent mechanical properties and relatively low production cost makes them a very viable candidate for a variety of applications.
