Original data on the temperature dependence of the surface tension of indium, obtained using two independent approaches (a large sessile drop and the maximum pressure in a drop) are presented. The focus is on analyzing possible methodological shortcomings of experimental studies in which the surface tension values of a number of pure metals are obtained that are considerably higher than the results from measuring surface tension by traditional means. It is found that cleaning the investigated metal surfaces through bombardment with heavy ions of inert gases can lead to violations of the thermodynamic equilibrium conditions of a surface with its own saturated vapor, and to the ensuing consequences. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd. It is found that continuous models are not suitable for adequate description of the melt viscosity for dispersion-filled nanocomposites. The correct interpretation of the viscosity in question can be derived within the fractal model of flow of viscous fluid. A new one-piece glass device for determining the temperature and concentration dependences of the electrical conductions of alkali metals and their alloys in high static vacuum conditions with an error of ∼0.4% is described. The device is intended to perform repeated measurements for each alloy to collect required data statistics. The design and test data of the combined device, which is intended to simultaneously measure the surface tensions and electron work functions of metals and alloys in static high-vacuum conditions in a temperature range of 60-400 K, are given. The measurements of the electron work function of pure Na, K, Rb, and Cs and near-eutectic alloys of the ternary Na-K-Cs system showed high reliability and accuracy of the obtained data. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
