By discussing the relationship between blast velocity and raceway length, the concept of reasonable blast velocity was put forward, further more, the theoretical foundation and influence factors of reasonable blast velocity were also analyzed in detail. What's more, the various phenomena of blast furnace with different blast velocities and the effective methods of adjusting the blast velocity were also clearly shown. Reasonable blast velocity that is not a definite number but a reasonable controlling range should be changed according to the change of blast furnace production conditions. So that looking for the reasonable blast velocity needs enough time to attempt and explore. Practice has proved that the active hearth and the long-term stable production of blast furnace could be realized only under the condition of reasonable blast velocity.

By analyzing the relationship between the reasonable blast kinetic energy and the hearth activity in blast furnace, that blast kinetic energy is not only the premise of a good hearth activity, but also one of the most important means to operate blast furnace for the operators. It was found that the reasonable blast kinetic energy increased with the increase of blast furnace volume and needed reasonable blast volume and tuyere area by study the theoretical basis and calculation method of the blast kinetic energy. By comparing the blast volumes of different blast furnaces, the concepts of blast volume ratio and blast volume coefficient were put forward. The details of exploring reasonable blast kinetic energy by adjusting the tuyere area of BX Steel new No. 1 blast furnace were introduced. What's more, various phenomena in blast furnace with different blast kinetic energies were also clearly illustrated, which could help the operator to judge whether the blast kinetic energy was in a reasonable range or not, and then adjust accordingly. In conclusion, the reasonable blast kinetic energy must adapt to the change of the various conditions during blast furnace production, which requires constant exploration to form the on-demand and reasonable blast system that could ensure the long-term stability of the blast furnace production. © 2016, Chinese Society for Metals. Flushing blast furnace by manganese ore was one of the important methods to deal with the accident of blast furnace hearth accumulation. So based on the previous studies, the properties and mechanism of the slag with different w((MnO)) were researched, which included the viscosity, melting temperature and stability index by melting physical properties comprehensive detector, the phase composition by XRD and the microstate by Raman spectrometer were conducted. The experiment results showed that during the process of flushing blast furnace, the best w((MnO)) in the slag was around 1.5%, so that the viscosity of this slag was about 0.25 Pa·s at the temperature of 1480 ℃, the melting temperature was around 1340 ℃ and the stability was strong, these were all good enough to meet the requirements of flushing blast furnace. The mechanism of flushing blast furnace by manganese ore was that the low melting point material of manganese olivine silicate which increased the superheat degree of the liquid slag had been generated in the slag. What's more, the concentration of the free oxygen ions that could promote the depolymerization of complex silicon oxygen tetrahedron network structure to simple silicon oxygen tetrahedron structure increased, which could significantly reduce the viscosity of slag by changing the slag microstate from complex to simple state in order to achieve the purpose of flushing blast furnace. © 2016, Chinese Society for Metals.
