We have used a laser deposition method to obtain films of the ternary compound CuGa 5Se 8. We have studied their composition and structure. We have established that both the crystals and the films of the indicated compound crystallize in a defect-containing chalcopyrite structure. We have determined the energy and nature of the optical transitions from the transmission spectra in the region of the intrinsic absorption edge. We have calculated the valence-band crystal-field (Δ CF) and spin-orbit (Δ SO) splitting energies according to Hopfield's quasicubic model for the ternary compound CuGa5Se8. © 2011 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. We used vapor-phase crystallization to grow homogeneous single crystals of the compound CdP2 of diameter 20 mm and length up to 50 mm. We determined the unit cell parameters and the composition of the single crystals grown. We created photosensitive In/CdP2 surface barrier structures and studied their photosensitivity spectra. Based on these studies, we established the broadband character of the photosensitivity of the structures, the nature of the photoconversion processes, and the type of interband transitions. We conclude that it is possible to use CdP2 single crystals as broadband photoconverters for natural light. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. Source

We have used the sol-gel method to synthesize titanium dioxide in the pores of an anodic aluminum oxide membrane. The samples were used for the test reaction of degradation of the organic dye rhodamine B. The concentration of the dye rhodamine B was monitored from the change in the absorption spectra in the 554 nm region, for an aqueous solution containing the dye and exposed to the emission from a mercury lamp. The synthesized samples of titanium oxide xerogel in the porous anodic aluminum oxide membrane are efficient photocatalysts for decomposition of organic dyes in an aqueous medium. © 2010 Springer Science+Business Media, Inc.
