Two invasive species of the sap beetles, Epuraea ocularis Fairmaire, 1849 and Stelidota geminata (Say, 1825), are recorded from Caucasus for the first time: from Abkhazia and from Russia (Krasnodar Territory) and Abkhazia, respectively. The wettability of rapidly solidified foils of Al-In alloys containing up to 4.7 at.% of In was investigated by means of sessile-drop method and atomic force microscopy. It was found that In significantly changes wetting properties of pure Al from a hydrophobic behaviour to a hydrophilic one. The effect of topography on the wetting properties of nano-rough foils demonstrates that an increase in In content up to 0.7 at.% resulted in a transition from a homogeneous to a heterogeneous wetting behaviour when decreasing the roughness of the surface makes it more hydrophilic. © 2016, Wydawnictwo SIGMA - N O T Sp. z o.o. This work reviews current theoretical approaches of biophysics and bioinformatics for the description of nucleosome arrangements in chromatin and transcription factor binding to nucleosomal organized DNA. The role of nucleosomes in gene regulation is discussed from the molecular-mechanistic and biological points of view. In addition to classical problems in this field, actual questions of epigenetic regulation are discussed. The authors selected for discussion what seem to be the most interesting concepts and hypotheses. An fluorescence quenching effect due to few-walled carbon nanotubes chemically modified by carboxyl groups has been utilized to discriminate Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP). It was shown that the complex obtained from these nanotube and singlestranded primer DNA is formed due to stacking interactions between the hexagons of the nanotubes and aromatic rings of nucleotide bases as well as due to establishing of hydrogen bonds between acceptor amine groups of nucleotide bases and donor carboxyl groups of the nanotubes. It has been demonstrated that these complexes may be used to make highly effective DNA biosensors detecting SNPs which operate as molecular beacons. Source
