This is a theoretical study of the nonequilibrium motion of charged particles in an electric field of solitons. We show that the self-consistent electric field of ion-acoustic and electron-acoustic solitons is characterized by one-way transfer of charged particles at a distance of several Debye radii. The dependence of relevant local currents on the amplitude of solitons is determined. We consider the practically important case of a moving cascade consisting of many solitons and show that the induced currents have a significant constant component. The kinetic energy acquired by charged particles in the soliton field is calculated. The temporal resolution required for the recording of soliton-induced currents is estimated. The calculations presented here can be used to interpret the results of experiments conducted to study solitons in the space plasma. © 2016, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

The special features of operation of combined brazed butt joints under loading are investigated. It is shown that to increase the load-carrying capacity of these joints, it is necessary to increase the number of steps in joints. The experimental results show that the thickness of the brazed joint in the butt and lap parts of the joint is an important design parameter which controls the efficiency of the stepped joint. An increase in the number of steps reduces the strength of the effect of natural strength of the brazed joint on the limiting load-carrying capacity of the butt joint. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.

Methods were developed to estimate the coefficient of reflection for the film visualization of magnetic fields in a defect zone in the process of the magnetization of a ferrous object parallel to a plate surface with due consideration for the tangential and normal defect zones and the impacts of media boundaries. Mathematical formulas were obtained, an analytical analysis was performed, and the behavior of the coefficient of reflection was defined compared to the film visualization of magnetic fields in the area of indication patterns of different types of continuity defects with account for their parameters and depth as revealed during the testing of an object in an applied field when the external luminous flux is perpendicular to the film surface. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

An analytical solution of the inverse spectroscopic ellipsometry problem for a transparent layer on an absorbing substrate is obtained based on the envelope function approximation. It is used to determine the spectral dependences of the refractive index n(λ) and absorption k(λ) for model and real silicon substrates with silicon dioxide layers. It was possible to determine analytically the effective optical characteristics of the silicon substrate in the approximation of a layer-substrate model with ideal interface boundaries. This result, together with the relative positions of the spectral curves for the ellipsometric angles tan ψ(λ) and cos Δ(λ) measured for a silicon substrate with a natural surface layer and for a silicon dioxide layer–silicon substrate structure, can be explained by the fact that the silicon dioxide layer is surrounded by transition and surface layers. © 2016 Springer Science+Business Media New York
