Transparent glass-ceramics with nanosize crystals of the titanate-zirconates of erbium and ytterbium that have the defect-fluorite and disordered-pyrochlore structures have been synthesized in the magnesium aluminosilicate sitall-forming system, and the structural transformations that accompany their formation have been studied. This paper discusses the absorption and the luminescence spectra and kinetics of erbium and ytterbium ions in the near-IR region and the up-conversion luminescence of erbium ions in glasses and glass-ceramics obtained at various heat-treatment temperatures. A comparison is made of the structures of crystals with the defect-fluorite and pyrochlore structures formed in magnesium-and lithium aluminosilicate glasses when they are heat-treated, as well as the spectroluminescence properties of the resulting magnesium- and lithium aluminosilicate glass-ceramics. © 2012 Optical Society of America.

Hierarchical approach to simulation of carbon nanotube properties is discussed. Results of finite element method (FEM) simulation of resonant excitation of the vibrations of carbon nanotubes and their bundles by microwave electromagnetic fields due to ponderomotive forces are presented and discussed from the viewpoint of nanoradio design.

Nonperturbative method for description of quantum systems - the operator method (OM) and the conception of the uniformly suitable estimation (USE) are considered for the series of real physical systems. It is shown that the OM zeroth-order approximation permits one to find the analytical approximation for eigenfunctions and eigenvalues with high accuracy within the entire range of the Hamiltonian parameters and any quantum numbers. The OM subsequent approximations converge rapidly to the exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation. The generalization of OM for the quantum statistics is also developed.
