A method of and an equipment for controlled cooling of one or multiple previously heated, straight, and thick steel wire to a predetermined temperature range between 400 C. and 650 C. Each of the thick steel wires is subjected to a controlled cooling-transformation treatment from austenite to pearlite, which occurs substantially after the wire leaves a forced water cooling length.

An arrangement of an elongated element wound on a spool is presented. The elongated element-has a leading end having a bent part and an unbent part. The bent part further having a beginning part and a trailing end. The leading end is positioned on the core of the spool and the bent part deviates at least for a part from a winding direction. The elongated element further forms subsequent windings in the winding direction on the core. At least one of the subsequent windings is wound over the beginning part of the bent part while an adhesive is provided to fix the trailing end of the bent part on the core simultaneously thereby securing elongated element on the spool.

A method to make sawing beads by means of laser cladding is disclosed whereby metal matrix powder is molten by means of a laser beam on a rotating sleeve while diamonds are thrown in the molten metal pool. By carefully controlling the temperature of the molten metal pool at or above 1150 C. for less than 200 ms the internal graphitisation of the diamonds can be limited. Although some of the diamonds in the sawing bead show internal graphitisation it is demonstrated by the inventors that a sawing cord using the bead obtained by the method has an above standard sawing performance.
