An automobile muffler comprises a housing (1), an air inlet pipe (3), an air outlet pipe (4), and an absorption material member (9). A muffling cavity is defined in the housing (1). A first end of the air inlet pipe (3) is suitable for being connected to an engine. A second end of the air inlet pipe (3) extends into the muffling cavity to guide waste gas generated by the engine into the muffling cavity. A first end of the air outlet pipe (4) is disposed in the muffling cavity and a second end of the air outlet pipe (4) extends out of the muffling cavity to discharge the waste gas in the muffling cavity. The absorption material member (9) is disposed in the housing (1) to absorb liquid in the muffling cavity. Also disclosed is an automobile provided with the muffler. The absorption material member (9) is disposed in the housing (1) of the muffler and can completely absorb accumulated liquid in the muffler, and accordingly, the service life of the muffler is prolonged. In addition, the absorption material member (9) can be configured not to affect the muffling effect and the appearance of the muffler, and is accordingly easy to replace and convenient to maintain.

It is determined whether to perform a gear shift by comparing with a current gear.
