On the basis of the process parameters of the cooking tube using in pulp mills, material, thickness of the shell, thickness of the reinforcing ring were selected as independent variables for orthogonal test, each variable selected three levels i.e. the minimum, median and maximum; "L9(34)" orthogonal table was designed; nine orthogonal tests with three factors and three levels were carried out. The finite element method was used to study the stress distribution of the cylinder of cooking tube with large opening in radial direction. The results showed that, the finite element method for studying stress distribution was feasible; the optimum combination was calculated thickness of the shell 14 mm, the material "Q245R", reinforcing ring thickness 12 mm.

Based on the investigation of horizontal tubular continuous digester in pulping system, the design data distribution of charging and discharging tubes with large opening for horizontal tubular continuous digester were presented. The different wall thicknesses of connecting tube, reinforcement ring and reinforcement tube were adopted to optimize structural design. Using 3D finite element method software FEA-Nozzle, the optimal structure size required was obtained for the opening structure. In the context of meeting the requirement of standard JB 4732-1995, reducing the wall thickness of the tubes and using reinforcement ring and reinforcement tube were of benefit to reduce the manufacture cost of digester.
