The atomization of coal liquefied oil in a pressure-swirl atomizer was investigated in this research. The results show that the droplet size of the coal liquefied oil decreases with increasing fuel injection pressure up to around 1.3 MPa, above which further increases in fuel injection pressure produce little effect on the droplet size. A high concentration of smaller droplets appears in the middle surrounded by a cloud of larger droplets on the periphery. The Sauter mean diameter of the coal liquefied oil is bigger than that of the petroleum based jet fuel (RP3) at the same fuel injection pressure. ©, 2014, Press of Tsinghua University. The composition and property of coal liquefied jet fuel distillate made in our country were studied in this paper. The test results showed that some of the physical and chemical properties were not fit for No.3 jet fuel specification and it could not be used as jet fuel. On the other hand, it is excellent in some performance such as high-density, high-flash point and low freezing point. The results showed that naphthenic hydrocarbons and tetralin homologs as well as alkyl benzene homologs were enriched in the distillate. This distillate could be used in the process of development high-powered jet fuel.
