A novel high hydrogen sensitive catalyst for ethylene slurry polymerization, named as SEL catalyst, was prepared. The composition, particle morphology, catalytic performance for ethylene homopolymerization and copolymerization of the catalyst and properties of the polyethylene obtained was characterized and compared with those of a commercial similar imported catalyst, named as Ref catalyst. The results show that SEL catalyst has high Ti and low Mg in composition, narrow particle size distribution and regular particle morphology. The melt flow rate of the polyethylene reaches 226.10 g/10 min when the hydrogen pressure is 0.48 MPa and ethylene pressure is 0.25 MPa, which indicate that SEL catalyst has high hydrogen sensitivity. SEL catalyst is superior to Ref catalyst in performance for ethylene/1-hexene copolymerization and low fine particle content of polyethylene powders obtained. ©, 2014, Hecheng Shuzhi Ji Suliao/China Synthetic Resin and Plastics.
