The grounding system is one of the important facilities for the safe operation of the transmission of the cable. The grounding resistance of artificial grounding system in 220 kV power transmission engineering is evaluated using analytic method. The grounding system using the tunnel foundation (GSTF) in the same engineering is analyzed by the finite element method and the corresponding grounding resistance is solved using the simplified formula. The comparison among results indicates that the GSTF can be a very competitive candidate as the grounding system of cable tunnel; In addition, the grounding potential character is studied using the simplified model of GSTF. The grounding potential gradually reduces along perpendicular to the cable tunnel and increases to stable along the parallel to the cable tunnel. The maximum value of the step voltage is in the perpendicular direction to the cable tunnel and far less than the safety limit. ©, 2015, Power System Technology Press. All right reserved. Source
