Delirium is a serious complication of disorders of nervous system and requires early detection for successful treatment. Confusion assessment method for intensive care unit (CAM-ICU) is a fast and reliable tool for detection of delirium. We performed screening for delirium among patients of neurological ward using CAM-ICU. Our experience showed that CAM-ICU could be used for the identification of delirium in neurological patients excluding those who suffer from severe aphasia.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is the most common cause of vestibular vertigo. It is caused by dislodged otoconia that enters the semicircular canals. Its main symptom is relapsing positional vertigo. The provocative tests, in particular the Dix— Hallpike maneuver, are used to confirm the diagnosis. In case of positive result of the test, one of the maneuvers is peformed depending on the affected semicircular canal, for instance the Epley maneuver. It is important to differentiate BPPV from the vertigo of central origin. © 2016, Media Sphera. All rights reserved.

Objective. To determine the possibility of using transcranial ultrasound dopplerography (TCDG) in assessment of unfavorable changes in cerebral blood circulation which lead to the development of intraoperative cerebral ischemia. Material and methods. We studied 55 patients who underwent vascular surgery or neurosurgical interventions. Changes in the systemic hemodynamics of ischemic character were recorded during the surgery in all patients. To assess the state of cerebral blood circulation, we performed TCDG using a special system of monitoring. Results. Intraoperative TCDG monitoring showed the absence of critical changes in cerebral blood circulation (cerebral blood flow). Conclusion. Complex preoperative and intraoperative ultrasound diagnosis gives the possibility to prevent intraoperative injuries of the brain.

The authors have studied the influence of dissolution media of potential antiaggregant in order to further carry out preclinical research of their impact on functional activity of platelets. There has been defined different impact of ethanol, dimethylsufoxide (DMSO), dimethylformamide (DMFA), and dioxane on the hemostasis system. It has been verified that dioxane, DMFA, and DMSO exert evident influence on adenosine diphosphate (ADP)- and collagen-induced aggregation of platelets, which is determined by turbidimetric method. The findings enable using ethanol as a solvent in maximum 50% exposure (vol/vol) in order to study the impact on aggregation of platelets of water-insoluble substances by this method.

By the reaction of 2-[6-methyl-1-(thiethane-3-yl)uracil-3-yl]acetic acid hydrazide with aryl aldehydes and acetophenone derivatives, acylhydrazones have been obtained, which exist in DMSO solutions as a mixture of two stereoisomers of an EC=N-isomer, due to the hindered internal rotation around the hydrazide bond. It has been found that the compounds synthesized exhibit a hypotensive activity. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A database on patients with multiple sclerosis (MS) of the Republican center of multiple sclerosis (Ufa city) is analyzed. The database includes 1436 patients. For the period 2005-2012, 4 female patients with cancer, including 2 patients with thyroid gland cancer, 1 patient with rectum tumor and 1 patient with breast cancer, were identified. Clinical features of MS in these cases were studied. In two patients, cancer developed during the treatment with β-interferon-1b. A possible association of cancer with MS and multiple sclerosis disease modifying drugs is discussed.

Objective — to analyze clinical characteristics of pain syndrome in patients with dorsalgia. Material and methods. Authors studied 43 patients (mean age 41.9±1.2 years), 34 women and 9 men, with acute and subacute chronic back pain. The study included neurological examination, MRI and/or CT of the spine, measurement of anxiety and depression with the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) and the McGill Pain Inventory. Results and conclusion. Chronic myofascial pain syndrome (MFPS) was frequently associated with anxiety-depressive disorders found in patients with cervical and cervical/pectoral pain, fibromyalgia with minimal neurological symptoms and no signs of neural structure compression according to MRI and CT. The results of the study of chronic MFPS should be taken into account in the choice of tactics of treatment of MFPS patients. The use of amelotex in the combination with compligam B in patients with dorsopathy and MFPS is effective together with correction of emotional disorders and treatment with chondroprotectors. © 2015, Media Sphera. To study the relationship between impairment of attention and development of pathological fatigue and depression after non-disabling stroke.Thirty patients were examined. Attention was assessed by the Attention Network Test (ANT). Pathological fatigue and depression were assessed by the Fatigue assessment scale and depression subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, respectively. The association between the severity of depression and fatigue after stroke and reduction of mean reaction time in ANT was found. A decrease in the reaction time may be one of the factors reducing working ability in patients with post-stroke fatigue and depression even in the absence of severe neurological deficit. This has to be taken into account when planning rehabilitation.
