Formation of negative ions via dissociative electron attachment (DEA) to the amino acid serine in the gas phase was studied using two different crossed electron/molecular beam techniques and quantum chemical, calculations. Resonance electron capture mass spectrum and effective ion yield curves of 16 negative ions were measured over the electron energy range from close to 0 to 11 eV. The negative ions from serine were detected from resonance states in the vicinity of 0, 1.3, 5, and 8 eV. The dominant reaction channel at low electron energies was (M - H)-. The relative cross section for this ion exceeds more than 20 times that of any other fragment negative ions. A high-resolution experiment was applied to study fine structures in (M H)- cross section. We have found that the second OH group influences some dissociative channels. Quantum chemical calculations were applied to interpret products of the DEA reaction channels. © 2010 American Chemical Society.

Technologically simple and low-cost method is suggested for processing of wastes from manufacture of ionol, a resin from the rectification stage, by isolation of 4,4′-ethylenebis(2,6-di-tert-butylphenol) via dissolution in hexane with the subsequent crystallization. A high activity of the product as a stabilizer of SKI-3 rubber and biodiesel fuel was demonstrated. © 2014 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

It is shown that the restoration of worn shafts by resistance welding of two steel filler wires to one side of the component is an efficient and highly productive process. The formalized description of the process of formation of the welded joint in the solid phase is presented. The mathematical model can be used in the development of technological processes of reconditioning worn shafts. © 2014 Taylor & Francis.

The chemiluminescence (CL) kinetics in U(IV) oxidation by atmospheric oxygen in aqueous HClO4 has been investigated. The CL quantum yield (ηCL, E/(mol U(IV))) in this reaction is 1.4 × 10 -8. The elementary event generating the CL emitter, which is the electronically excited uranyl ion*(UO 2 2+), is electron transfer from the uranyl ion UO 2 + to the oxidizer (·OH radical). The Ag+ ion quenches CL, and the Cu2+ ion enhances CL. © 2013 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

A procedure is presented for consideration of the reinforcing functions of the root system of trees and shrubs when analyzing their capacity to stabilize slide-prone slopes. The resistance offered by the roots can be accounted for by an artificial increase in the specific cohesion of the soil in the upper layer that they have penetrated (thickness of 2-0.5 m). © 2014 Springer Science+Business Media New York.

Carbon nanotubes and fibers are studied with the help of an electron projector and dispersion field-emitted energy analyzer. Probe current-voltage characteristics of samples are exhibited wave-like modulation caused by periodic variations in field-emitted electron energy spectra observed with increasing emission voltage. The explanation relies on the model of Young's interference from two coherent sources. © 2014 IEEE.

Under the action of PCl5, the Beckman rearrangement of a 3: 1 mixture of Z- and E-isomeres of 18β-hydro-xydihydroquinopimaric acid resulted in 5′-caprolactam and isomeric caprolactams containing fragments of cyclic ether. Z- and E-ketoximes were separated as acetates. Using a carrageenan inflammation model, we demonstrated that the anti-inflammatory activity of quinopimaric acid derivatives was comparable with that of diclofenac. © 2010 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.

Polymorphisms in two growth hormone (GH) gene regions, intron 3 (MspI-polymorphism) and exon 4 (AluI polymorphism), and their association with milk productivity in Black Pied, Bestuzhevskaya, and Simmental cattle breeds have been studied. It was shown that allele GH V at the AluI polymorphic site and allele GH D at the MSPI polymorphic site of the GH gene, particularly in homozygous state, were more favorable in terms of agricultural importance than the GH L and GH C alleles. © 2011 Pleiades Publishing, Ltd.
