A system and method monitoring conditions of a subjects body including a control unit receiving image data and data indicative of an external stimulation applied to the body during collection of the image data therefrom, a memory utility, and a processor utility. The image data is indicative of a sequence of speckle patterns generated by the body according to a certain sampling time pattern. The processor utility performs processing the image data utilizing the data indicative of the applied external field(s), including determining a spatial correlation function between successive speckle patterns in the sequence, and determining a time varying spatial correlation function in the form of a time-varying function of a feature of the correlation function indicative of a change of the speckle pattern over time; selecting a parameter of the time-varying spatial correlation function, and applying a model to the parameter to determine a corresponding body condition; and generating output data indicative of the corresponding body condition.

A gain cell includes a write bit line input, a read bit line output, a write trigger input and a read trigger input. The gain cell also includes a write transistor, retention element and read transistor. Each of the transistors includes a respective first diffusion connection, gate connection and second diffusion connection. The write transistor first diffusion connection is connected to the write bit line input and the write transistor gate connection is connected to the write trigger input. The read transistor first diffusion connection being connected to the read bit line output and the second diffusion connection is connected to the read trigger input. The retention element buffers between write transistor and the read transistor during data retention. The retention element also connects or disconnects a write transistor diffusion connection to/from a constant voltage in accordance with a retained data level at the read transistor gate connection.

A method for performing optical constellation conversion, according to which each received symbol from a constellation of input symbols is optically split into M components and each component is multiplied by a first predetermined different complex weighing factor, to achieve M firstly weighted components with different amplitudes. Then a nonlinear processor optically performs a nonlinear transform on each M firstly weighted components, so as to obtain M outputs which are linearly independent, Finally, a linear processor optically performs a linear transform to obtain a new converted constellation by optically multiplying, in the complex plane, each of the M outputs by a second predetermined different complex weighing factor, to achieve M secondly weighted components and then summing the M secondly weighted components.

Cyclic D,L--peptides were shown to have an anti-amyloid aggregation effect. The cyclic peptide (designated cyclic peptide-2) having the sequence [1JwHsK], had a drastic effect on amyloid aggregation. However, the linear equivalent of cyclic peptide-2 did not inhibit amyloid formation. Cyclic peptide 2 was also effective in reducing A-induced toxicity in PC12 cells. According to embodiments of the invention, cyclic peptides may comprise between 6 or 8 amino acids. In an embodiment, half of the amino acid residues are in the D-formation, and the other half are in the L-formation. In an embodiment of the invention, the amino acids alternate between the D and L-formations.

The invention relates to inhibitors of a bacterial biofilm formation that target the N loop extension of the periplasmic subunit of a bacterial Phosphate Specific Transfer system (PstS), specifically, of P. aeruginosa. The inhibitors of the invention may be either derived from the N loop extension of PstS or directed against the N loop extension. The invention further provides compositions and methods using said inhibitors in inhibiting biofilm formation and in treating pathologic conditions associated therewith.

A system and methods are provided for dynamic classifying in real time cases received in a stream of big data. The system comprises multiple remote autonomous classifiers. Each autonomous classifier generates a classification scheme comprising a plurality of classifier parameters. Upon receiving a case, the system determines from among the plurality of classifier parameters a most similar classifier parameter and the case may be added to a buffer of cases represented by the most similar classifier parameter. When a measure of error between the case and the most similar classifier parameter is greater than a threshold, the buffer is dynamically regrouped into one or more new buffers, according to a criterion of segmentation quality. One or more new classifier parameters, representing the one or more regrouped case buffers, are added to the classification scheme.

Although interest in the neurobiology of parent-infant bonding is a century old, neuroimaging of the human parental brain is recent. After summarizing current comparative research into the neurobiology of parenting, here I chart a global 'parental caregiving' network that integrates conserved structures supporting mammalian caregiving with later-evolving networks and implicates parenting in the evolution of higher order social functions aimed at maximizing infant survival. The response of the parental brain to bonding-related behavior and hormones, particularly oxytocin, and increased postpartum brain plasticity demonstrate adaptation to infant stimuli, childrearing experiences, and cultural contexts. Mechanisms of biobehavioral synchrony by which the parental brain shapes, and is shaped by, infant physiology and behavior emphasize the brain basis of caregiving for the cross-generation transmission of human sociality. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
