The surface sorption nature of bioadsorbents derived from leaves, stem or bark of Nerium odorum and Calotropis zygantia are successfully explored in extracting chromate ions from polluted water. Physico-chemical parameters, such as pH, time of equilibration and sorbent concentration have been optimized using simulated wastewaters. Methodologies are developed for the quantitative extractions of chromates not less than 94.0% from synthetic wastewaters. The procedures developed are successfully applied to samples collected from industrial effluents and polluted lakes. © 2012- Kalpana Corporation. Source

In an effort to develop anti-bacterial agents, a series of Chalcones were synthesized by condensing 4-chloro, 2-hydroxyacetophenone with aldehyde derivatives in dilute ethanolic sodium hydroxide solution at room temperature according to claisen-schmidt condensation. The synthesized compounds were characterized by means of their IR, 1H-NMR spectral data and elemental analysis. All these compounds were tested for their anti-bacterial activity by agar well diffusion method. Source
