SA508Gr4 is a newly developed steel for reactor pressure vessel and its behavior data is rare, especially its welding characters attract researchers and industries attention. In this paper, a finite element method (FEM) is employed to investigate the thermal process and phase transformation process of arc welding of SA508Gr4 steel, where a body heat source model and element birth and death technique were used in this simulation process. This study focuses on the effect of peak temperature (tm) and cooling rate (t8/5) on microstructural transformation in HAZ, which is to be overcome by combining SH-CCT diagram with numerical thermal cycle curves. Through conversion of thermal cycle data into microstructural information, it is found that the quenched zone is developed rapidly whose width is 1 560m, while the inter-critical HAZ region is three times smaller than the quenched zone dimension, which is 450m. Post weld heat treatment was suggested to be adopted for improving the property of HAZ. In addition, the metallographic analysis confirms the expected microstructural evolutions. The microstructure is martensite (M) + some bainite (B) and the microhardness is between 429 HV and 432 HV. © 2017 ISIJ.

SA508Gr4 is a newly developed high-strength steel for nuclear reactor pressure vessels. Its welding characteristics remain largely unexplored. In this work, the simulated heat affected zone continuous cooling transformation (SHCCT) diagram of SA508Gr4 steel was constructed and the high-temperature cooling phase compositions and the properties of the heat affected zone (HAZ) were characterized using dilatometry and microscopic tests. The results show that the phase transformation in the HAZ was divided into bainite and martensite transformation stages. When 4.6 ≤ t8/5 (the HAZ cooling time from 800 °C to 500°C) ≤ 15 s, lath-shaped martensite was fully developed, resulting in extensive hardening and cold cracking in the HAZ, while the cooling time required to form the bainite completely exceeds 1 200 s. Thus, to improve weld quality, preheating to 196 °C or higher is recommended. © Carl Hanser Verlag GmbH & Co. KG.

Effects of Gd alloying on microstructure and corrosion resistance of as-cast AM50 alloy was investigated by optical microscope, X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscope. The results show that the AM50 alloy is composed of α-Mg solid solution and the primary β-Mg17 Al12 phase, and the main phases in the Gd alloyed AM50 alloy are α-Mg, β-Mg17 Al12, Al2Gd3 and Al0.4GdMn1.6. The addition of Gd element can play a role in fine grain strengthening, purification and dispersion strengthening. The corrosion resistance of Gd alloyed AM50 alloy is superior to those of AM50 alloy, and the AM50-2Gd alloy has the desirable corrosion resistance. © 2016, Journal Office of Special Casting and Nonferrous Alloys. The SPCC cold-rolling steel plate with 0.55 mm in thickness produced by CSP method were recrystallization annealed by different processes, and the values r, Δr and so on were measured. The effect of temperature on the texture and deep drawability during annealling was studied. The results show that the deep drawability increases greatly when the first step holding temperature condition in annealing is controlled strictly. The drawability is best when the temperature for recrystallization nucleation just finished is set as the first step holding temperature.

Tooth surface peeling of the coach driving screw bevel gear was analyzed by means of macroscopic fracture observation, hardness test, microstructure examination. The result shows that the main reason of early peeling is the exceeding contact stress at the top of tooth caused by abnormal contact at the tooth surface. The weakened grain boundary and the thinner carburized layer aggravate the early peeling.

Alloy element and RE were added into the partial model of LFC casting to meet the special properties of partial component during LFC process. Alloy elements and RE can be dissolved into the corresponding position of the LFC castings. The results show that partial alloying treatment can effectively improve the partial special property requirements of LFC components.

Sub-frame of dump truck is a special equipment, which is used to avoid carriage of goods having stress concentration on the chassis frame, and its design rationality have very important influence on the using performance of whole vehicle. In this paper, according to the phenomenon that the sub-frame of a company's mining heavy-duty dump trucks often appear crack and even rupture, using finite element analysis method, the sub-frame has been carried on the static analysis in both cases that the normal load and eccentricity loading when unloading goods. The analysis result shows that the reason of crack and even rupture of secondary frame is stress concentration occurs in the shaft hole connecting balanced frame with sub-frame because of lateral centroid of goods deviating from the longitudinal symmetry plane caused by goods loading or overloading and maximum stress is beyond the material yield limit. The improvement suggestions of sub-frame design are put forward finally. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

In this paper, we propose a multi-layer selection and mining methods for effective intrusion detection, which utilize feature selection, classification, clustering and evidence theory for decision making. In the experiments, DARPA KDD-99 intrusion detection data set is used for evaluation. It shows that our proposed classifier not only classifies and separates the normal and abnormal data, but also reduces false positive and false negative besides detecting all four kinds of attacks. © 2014 SERSC.
