Methyl palmitate was synthesized from palmitic acid and methanol in the present of CePW12O40 catalyst. Effect of molar ratio of palmitic acid to methanol, dosage of catalyst and reaction time on conversion rate of methyl palmitate was investigated. The experiments show that the optimum expermental conditions as follows: the molar ratio of palmitic acid to metha¬nol is at 1/12, the quantity of catalyst is equal to 9% of the palmitic acid, reaction time is 4 h. CePW12O40 catalyst can be reused for 10 times and conversion rate of methyl palmitate is still above 96%. XRD and IR analysis shows that keggin structure of CePW12O40 before and after esterification reaction does not change.
