In Late Pliocene - Early Pleistocene of Eastern Europe there was a sequence of replaced each other subspecies of Archidiskodon meridionalis: A. m. rumanus - A. m. gromovi - A. m. meridionalis - A. m. tamanensis, which replaced each other. A specimen of A. m. rumanus from Novotroitsk site was described. Features of stratigraphically attached forms of different age meridionaloid elephants' samples from the localities of Liventsovka, Georgievsk, Psekups and Sinaya Balka were examined. Dental characteristics of " southern elephants" evolved in a direction with increases of number and lamellar frequency on M2/m2-M3/m3, and increases in length and heights of a crown on DP4/dP4-M1/m1. For large samples, average values of teeth parameters considered together are important. © 2011 . Source

Based on study of a series of early generations' teeth DP4/dp4 - M1/m1 of elephants from the Late Villafranchian-Early Galerian locality Sinyaya Balka/Bogatyri (Taman peninsula, Russia) the variability of their characteristics is established. There is no clear normal distribution of main diagnostic dental parameters in the sample. This confirms the assumption of the possible presence of two elephant taxa in the structure of Taman Faunistic complex from south Eastern Europe, which was made earlier on the basis of the M3 teeth. The main part of the collection is represented by remains of the late meridionaloid elephant subspecies. Archidiskodon meridionalis tamanensis, typical for late Early Pleistocene of Eastern Europe and neighboring regions. Individual specimens of the sample may refer to other form of elephants with similar morphological teeth characteristics, probably to. Phanogoroloxodon mammonthoides. Though the lesser diagnosticity of early generation teeth in comparison with the M3/m3, it was found that they can be used when determining the taxonomic forms of elephants, even for the meridionaloid elephant subspecies. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd and INQUA. The most numerous forms of large deer Eucladoceros and Arvernoceros from Villafranchian localities of Sea of Azov Region and adjacent territories are described. Their characteristics of evolutionary changes in a structure of their antlers are marked. The partial revision of late representatives of genus Eucladoceros with allocation of some subspecies was carried out. © 2012. Source

In 1964 and 1999, respectively in the northern Sea of Azov Region in the Kagal'nik sand pit, two almost complete skeletons of Mammuthus trogontherii were found. The finds were dated to the early Middle Pleistocene freshwater deposits. Their individual ages were defined as 40 and 47 years. The proportion differences in size and some morphological characteristics suggest that they were probably of different gender. The elephants' features coincide with those of representatives of the species from Süssenborn and Tiraspol, which were typical for the early stage of the Tiraspol faunal complex (=Cromerian) in Eastern Europe. © 2011.
