This paper presents novel antennas on DuPont 943 LTCC substrate with a balanced feed, designed to operate in the 60 GHz frequency range, foreseen for future high data rate WLAN systems and broadband multimedia applications. These antennas display not only good matching and radiation properties, but also the use of LTCC material allows for a high degree of integration with different RF circuits.

In this paper, the dynamic behavior of a one degree-of-freedom (DOF) contactless linear slider based on superconducting magnetic levitation is experimentally analyzed. The device is intended for precision positioning of an optic mirror in cryogenic environments. Different prototypes of this device have been tested at cryogenic temperatures (77 K), and their mechanical behavior characterized in the sliding direction for forced and unforced oscillations. Experimental results reveal that the slider is self-stable at the initial equilibrium position and the dynamic behavior fits well an underdamped harmonic oscillator. Finally, the device showed great potential for horizontal vibration isolation, acting as a low-pass filter with a resonance at about 0.9 Hz. Copyright © 2015 by ASME.

Streptococcus suis is a recognized pathogen that may cause important diseases in pigs and humans. This microorganism has been repeatedly isolated from wild boar (Sus scrofa). However, its health implications for this wild species are still unknown. This article reports a detailed description of a fatal case of septicemia by S. suis affecting a young wild boar. The affected animal, about 15 days old, was found near death and exhibiting neurologic signs at a wild boar estate in southwestern Spain. Postmortem examination showed generalized congestion, brain hemorrhages and lobular pneumonia. Histopathological evaluation demonstrated the presence of meningitis and encephalitis with marked congestion and suppurative bronchopneumonia. Streptococcus suis serotype 2 isolates exhibiting important virulence factors (extracellular factor, muramidase-released protein, and suylisin) were isolated from the affected animal. This study confirms the presence of potentially virulent and zoonotic strains of S. suis in wild boar from Spain. © 2015 American Association of Zoo Veterinarians.

The externally blown flap (EBF) is an approach of powered lift technology utilizing conventional wing mounted engines to blow exhaust over the flaps surfaces. Based upon the multiblock point-matched structured grid generation techniques, three-dimensional Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) computational analysis of a high-lift configuration with and without externally blown flap jet effects is conducted in this study. Insights on the changes of the space flow characteristics around the flaps, the surface pressure distributions as well as the aerodynamic forces are presented. The predictive capability of the RANS method for powered lift characteristics is assessed. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.
