This paper deals with parameter and state estimation of the squirrel-cage asynchronous machine. The formulation of this estimation problem is based on the least-squares method and the Kalman filtering techniques. We suppose that the asynchronous machine can be represented by a linear multivariable state space mathematical model, which has unknown parameters and state variables. A recursive estimation algorithm is used in order to estimate, jointly, these parameters and state variables. The estimation procedure is only based on stator current, voltage and speed measurements. The algorithm performance is tested using simulation and experimental data from a commercial 1 kW induction motor. The obtained numerical and experimental simulation results are satisfactory. © 2011 Praise Worthy Prize S.r.l. -All rights reserved.
