Frequency is one of the most important factors for power system harmonic and interharmonic estimation. Accurate spectral analysis relies much on the correct identification of frequencies of the measured signals. In this paper, several commonly used methods for power system stationary and time-varying harmonic and interharmonic estimation are reviewed and compared according to the viewpoint of the frequency identification. It is expected to provide suitable guidelines for the future studies. © 1982-2012 IEEE.

The masking properties of the human ear have been successfully applied to adapt a speech enhancement system, yielding an improvement in speech quality. The accuracy of estimated speech spectra plays a major role in computing the noise masking threshold. Although traditional methods using the power-spectral-subtraction method to roughly estimate the speech spectra can provide an acceptable performance, the estimated speech spectra can be further improved for computing the noise masking threshold. In this article, we aim at finding a better spectral estimate of speech by the two-step-decision-directed method. In turn, this estimate is employed to compute the noise masking threshold of a perceptual gain factor. Experimental results show that the amounts of residual noise can be efficiently suppressed by embedding the two-step-decision-directed algorithm in the perceptual gain factor. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. A novel noise filtering algorithm based on ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) is proposed to remove artifacts in electrocardiogram (ECG) traces. Three noise patterns with different power-50 Hz, EMG, and base line wander - were embedded into simulated and real ECG signals. Traditional IIR filter, Wiener filter, empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and EEMD were used to compare filtering performance. Mean square error between clean and filtered ECGs was used as filtering performance indexes. Results showed that high noise reduction is the major advantage of the EEMD based filter, especially on arrhythmia ECGs. © 2010 by the authors.


This study aimed to identify and analyze characteristics of classic articles published in the Web of Science social work subject category from 1856 to 2011. Articles that have been cited at least 50 times were assessed regarding publication outputs, distribution of outputs in journals, publications of authors, institutions, countries as well as citation life cycles of articles with the highest total citations since its publication up to 2011 and the highest citations in 2011. Five bibliometric indicators were used to evaluate source countries, institutions, and authors. Results showed that 721 of the most highly referenced articles, published between 1957 and 2008, had been cited at least 50 times. Child Abuse & Neglect and American Journal of Community Psychology published the most classic articles. USA produced 89 % of classic articles and also published the most number of single, internationally collaborative, first author, and corresponding author classic articles. The top 38 productive institutions were all located in the US. The University of Illinois was the most productive institution for the total classic articles while University of California, Los Angeles produced the most inter-institutionally collaborative articles and Arizona State University published the most single institution articles. Furthermore, a new indicator, Y-index was successfully applied to evaluate publication characteristics of authors and institutions. High percentage of authors had the same numbers of first author and corresponding author status of classic articles in social work field. © 2013 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

Purpose The goals of this study were to examine the group-based trajectories of depressive symptoms over an extended period among the older people and to identify the risk factors by gender. Methods The 18-year data used in this study came from a multiple-wave nationwide survey of older Taiwanese population. A group-based trajectory analysis method was used to identify the trajectories, and risk factors at baseline and previous depressive symptoms were used as predictors for the trajectories. Results Six trajectories were identified within the total sample, and females were more likely to be in the increasing and declining trajectories than males. When the data were divided by gender, four trajectories for males and four trajectories for females were identified: low, medium, declining, and increasing. Higher-level trajectories of depressive symptoms were related to more chronic diseases, lower physical function, lower economic satisfaction, and previous depressive symptoms for both the older men and women. Less social support and social participation were related to higher depressive symptom trajectories, particularly for men. Discussion Older females may experience more emotional fluctuation than male elderly, thus changes in psychosocial health for female elderly need to be considered by health professionals and families. Social support and social participation are protective against depressive symptoms for the higher-level trajectory groups, and older men, in particular, are more sensitive to these two social-health-related variables. Due to the proliferation of variety RFID applications supporting homeland security and defense missions, mobile devices need to store many different RFID tags to access multiple homeland defense sub-departments. Although the integration technologies of RFID systems and mobile devices have been defined and appeared in some NFC specifications. In recently years, combine the technologies of Near Field Communication (NFC) in Mobile devices can improve constraint computation capability and memory usage for Radio Frequency Identi.cations (RFID) systems. Nevertheless, currently some NFC secure key management mechanisms manage these secure multiple secret keys are needed to be very large duplicated storage space using lots of RFID tags, and they still lack the efficiency and flexibility in the management. In this paper, we first propose a multi-issued tag key agreement with time constraint, accompanying a new type of secure tag, called as a secure multi-issued tag, to deal with the problem of the management of multiple secure accesses. To achieve the requirement of near field spatial communications, each secure multi-issued tag can be authorized by distinct missions belonging to distinct group served among homeland defense sub-departments. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd. This study aimed to identify and analyze the characteristics of the top-cited articles published in the Science Citation Index Expanded from 1991 to 2010. Articles that have been cited more than 1,000 times since publication to 2010 were assessed regarding their distribution in indexed journals and categories of the Web of Science. Five bibliometric indicators were used to evaluate source institutions and countries. A new indicator, the Y-index, is proposed to assess publication quantity and the character of contribution to articles. We identify 3,652 top-cited articles with 71 % originating from US. The fourteen most productive institutions were all located in US. Science, Nature, New England Journal of Medicine, and Cell hosted the most cited publications. In addition, the Y-index was successfully applied to evaluate the publication character of authors, institutions, and countries. © 2012 Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary.

This study aimed to identify and to analyze characteristics of top-cited articles published in the Web of Science chemical engineering subject category from 1899 to 2011. Articles that have been cited more than 100 times were assessed regarding publication outputs, and distribution of outputs in journals. Five bibliometric indicators were used to evaluate source countries, institution and authors. A new indicator, Y-index, was created to assess quantity and quality of contribution to articles. Results showed that 3828 articles, published between 1931 and 2010, had been cited at least 100 times. Among them 54 published before 1991, and 49 top-cited articles originated from US. The top eight productive institutions were all located in US. The top journals were Journal of Catalysis, AIChE Journal, Chemical Engineering Science and Journal of Membrane Science. Y-index was successfully applied to evaluate publication character of authors, institutions, and countries/regions. © 2012 Chemical Industry and Engineering Society of China (CIESC) and Chemical Industry Press (CIP).

A Hamiltonian graph G is panpositionably Hamiltonian if for any two distinct vertices x and y of G, it contains a Hamiltonian cycle C such that dC(x, y) = l for any integer l satisfying dG(x, y) ≤ l ≤ V(G)/2, where dG(x, y) (respectively, dC(x, y)) denotes the distance between vertices x and y in G (respectively, on C), and V(G) is the total number of vertices in G. As the importance of Hamiltonian properties for data communication between units in parallel and distributed systems, the panpositionable Hamiltonicity involves more flexible cycle embedding for message transmission. This paper shows that for two arbitrary nodes x and y of the n-dimensional locally twisted cube LTQn, n ≥ 4, and for any integer l {d} {d + 2, d + 3, d + 4,., 2n-1}, where d=dLTQn(x,y), there exists a Hamiltonian cycle C of LTQn such that dC(x, y) = l. © 2013 Elsevier Inc. Monitoring of electrical quantities is an important task for the evaluation of power quality (PQ). However, analysis methods for PQ disturbances are quite different. This circumstance would make the design of a multifunction PQ-measuring instrument difficult. In this paper, the design and implementation of a virtual multifunction PQ analyzer based on the adaptive linear neural network are discussed. The main advantages of the realized analyzer are the simplification and integration for the harmonic/interharmonic analyzer, flickermeter, and voltage event identifier by adopting the same computational mechanism. Finally, some tests are made to verify the performance of the proposed virtual multifunction analyzer. © 2012 IEEE.
