Modern care processes cannot be confined within single operating units, rather they need to be organized in networks; this is even more true in managing chronic illnesses. Home artificial nutrition is an example of such a process, and as such inevitably obeys the rules of complexity. The clinical governance of home artificial nutrition can only be implemented therefore using the strategic tools of complexity theories, among which the identification of nodes functioning as relationship facilitators is crucial. Strengthening organizations' capabilities to give effective, efficient, and suitable responses in home artificial nutrition from a clinical and organizational point of view will therefore depend on the insistence with which communication between nodes is promoted and consolidated. The future chal-lenge for governance of the network will thus have at its heart the capability to plan transverse training and development pathways. © 2012 SINPE-GASAPE.
