Understanding the virtual water trade concept and strategy is important for formulating informed policies for improving water use efficiency at different levels. However, the introduction of virtual water concept as a policy option in Egypt is still in need for extensive investigations, research, and feasibility evaluation. Currently, Egypt's net virtual water import as a percentage of water resources has mounted to be 23.55%. The main concern, here, is to apply the concept of virtual water as a strategy in a way that meets its interests and objectives defined in the Egyptian National Water Resources Plan. This paper is primarily concerned with investigating the prevailing water/food situation in Egypt. It outlines water and food security situation and figures, as well as policy measures undertaken to meet the challenges. The role of 'virtual water' within a broader policy framework is demonstrated using crop production and international trade data from Egypt, where substantial amounts of 'virtual water' is embodied in wheat and maize imports. It is argued that for a country like Egypt, affordability of applying the virtual water concept may not be a major problem, but more the priority and independency related to food security. In order to adopt the application of virtual water concept in the national water resources strategy of Egypt, there is a need for a clear vision and understanding of its advantages and disadvantages according to the Egyptian conditions. This new concept as a policy option in Egypt requires further research and thorough understanding of the impacts and interactions on the local social, economic, environmental, cultural, natural, and political situation. © 2009 Springer Science+Business Media B.V.

Introduction Bilateral external carotid arteries ligation is a rare practice in cases of extensive maxilla-facial injuries. Defining indication criteria in the management of such cases is highly demanded in emergency surgery. Case presentation Reported case presents a male patient 67 years old man with a gunshot to the face. The whole face was macerated. Patient was operated surgically performing bilateral external carotid artery ligation, tracheostomy, pharyngostomy, gastrostomy and pressure dressing to face and head. Conclusion The procedure of bilateral external carotid artery ligation has no defined role in the management of maxillofacial trauma. The current status of such procedure in maxillofacial trauma needs revision. © 2015 The Authors. on behalf of Surgical Associates Ltd.

We studied the characteristics and the predictors of survival in Bahraini renal transplant recipients with an allograft that functioned for more than 10 years. Seventy-eight patients underwent renal transplantation between 1982 and 1999. Among them, 56 patients maintained functioning allografts for more than 10 years (range 10-30 years). Characteristics of the surviving patients, data on graft survival, and determinants of outcome were obtained by reviewing all medical records. The mean age at time of renal transplantation was 33.6 ± 15.3 years. The source of the graft in 42 (75%) recipients was from living related donors with a mean age of 31.4 ± 7.7 years, and it was the first graft in 48 recipients. The primary immunosuppression regimen consisted of cyclosporine (CsA) and prednisolone. Azathioprine (AZA) was given to 52 (92.9%) recipients, while four patients received steroids and AZA only. Induction therapy was administered to 30 patients in the CsA group. Acute rejection episodes occurred in eight (14.3%) patients, of whom two experienced two episodes. During the last follow-up in January 2010, the mean serum creatinine was 118.3 ± 46.5 μmol/L. A history of cancer was noted in one patient, whereas hypertension was encountered in 54% and diabetes mellitus in 20.5%. We compared the graft functioning group with the graft failure group and found that the independent determinants of long-term graft survival included time of late acute rejection episodes and histopathologic findings of chronic allograft damage, post-transplant hypertension and serum creatinine at one year. We conclude that renal transplantation even in its earliest years and despite the associated numerous complications has provided a ten-year or more of near-normal life to patients with end-stage renal disease.

The importance of statistical forecasting is in its ability to discover hidden knowledge from databases. Forecasting is used successfully in many sectors. In this paper, forecasting is implemented in the educational sector, three time series algorithms are used, namely-simple moving average forecasting, weighted average forecasting and linear trend forecasting. Six secondary schools (from 7th to 9th) were selected in this study and data was collected for 9 years. The results indicate that the linear trend forecasting was the most accurate in predicting the school success ratio compared with the simple moving average forecasting and weighted average forecasting, as far as mean absolute error, mean square error and absolute percentage error are concerned. © 2012 IEEE.

Data Mining (DM) is the science of extracting useful information from the huge amounts of data. Data mining methods such as Naïve Bayes, Nearest Neighbor and Decision Tree are tested. The implementation of the three algorithms showed that Naïve Bayes algorithm is effectively used when the data attributes are categorized, and it can be used successfully in machine learning. The Nearest Neighbor is most suitable when the data attributes are continuous or categorized. The last algorithm tested is the Decision Tree, it is a simple predictive algorithm implemented by using simple rule methods in data classification. Each of the three algorithms can be implemented successfully and efficiently after studying the nature of database according to their; size, attributes, continuity and repetition. The success of data mining implementation depends on the completeness of database, that represented by data warehouse, that must be organized by using the important characteristics of data warehouse. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
