Plasmon peaks along with Auger PLVV peak have been observed in the ultraviolet photoelectron spectra (UPSs) of InP after 5 min of sputtering with 0.5 kV Ar+ ions. Plasmon and Auger peaks are not observed in UPS of un-sputtered InP surface with native oxides of In and P. Filled electron energy levels are not observed near the Fermi level from 5 min sputtered InP surface due to increase of ionization potential of nano In clusters. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements on PbMoO 4 (LMO) crystals have been performed at the recently-commissioned dispersive EXAFS beamline (BL-8) of INDUS-2 Synchrotron facility at Indore, India. The LMO samples were prepared under three different conditions viz. (i) grown from a stoichiometric starting charge in air ambient, (ii) grown from a stoichiometric starting charge in argon ambient and (iii) grown from PbO-rich starting charge in air ambient. The EXAFS data obtained at both Pb L 3 and Mo K edges of LMO have been analysed to determine Pb-O, Pb-Mo and Mo-O bond lengths in the crystals. The information thus obtained has been used to examine the microscopic defect structures in crystals grown under different conditions. © Indian Academy of Sciences.

Nanocrystalline zinc oxide generates much interest due to its enhanced gas-sensing abilities. The sensing mechanism is manifested by a change in electrical conductivity due to the interaction between the surface complexes and the target gas molecules. EXAFS measurements were carried out on ZnO samples with particle sizes in the range of 5-100 nm at the Zn K-edge (9659 eV) in different gaseous atmospheres to study the mechanism of gas absorption. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.

A solid solution of BaCeO3-BaZrO3 combines the high protonic conductivity of BaCeO3 in presence of hydrogen containing atmospheres at elevated temperatures and appreciable chemical and mechanical stability of BaZrO3 towards water and CO2. EXAFS measurements on the BaCe0.8-xZrxY0.2O 3-δ system with x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 at the Y (dopant) K-edge (17046 eV) were carried out. Two different structural phases were identified as a consequence of change in the doping concentrations. © 2012 American Institute of Physics.
