This article does the research on fracture reasons of main drive spindle and working rolls in a 1780 rolling mill R2 rougher mill, by using finite element analysis and fracture analysis, combined with theoretical calculations and field current feedback curve. The results are shown as follows: defect of the jaw is not the main reason for its fracture; break of jaw will not lead to fracture of the working rolls and roll flat head; during the accident, the upper roll flat head breaks firstly, then the jaw hole, latter upper roll flat head and jaws of death break in sequence, accident happens.

The influencing factors of ferrous charges consumption on a 100 t converter were investigated in Angang first steelmaking and rolling plant. The ferrous charges consumption was reduced to 1042.52 kg for each ton steel in 2009. The technology and management measures were proposed in raw and auxiliary materials, smelting process, slagging regime, endpoint control, secondary refining and continuous casting, which reduced costs and increased effectively social and economical benefits.

Gas gap was the biggest threat to BF hearth long campaign life. Through academic calculations and field investigations, the influencing factors to cause gas gap in hearth area was analyzed. As the results, the effective measures involving design, construction and operation were proposed to avoid gas gap for long campaign life of BF hearth, and the solutions were provided to achieve non-gas gap operation and long hearth life. Jacket cooling, using hot water during furnace drying process and leak prevention were found to be the most effective measures of gas gap prevention.

The relationship between deep desulfurization, controlling nitrogen and controlling inclusions of X70 pipeline steel were analyzed. It was pointed out that the needed qualifications and the controlling methods of strengthen desulfurization influence controlling nitrogen and inclusions, the better slag composition and slag volume control in CaO-SiO2-Al2O3 slag system which was as the desulfurization slag system and the flow rate of bottom blowing in the process refining influence desulfurization, controlling nitrogen and inclusions. And it focused on the flow of the bottom blowing and the desulfurization time at the enhanced desulfurization. From the perspective of clean steel, it was pointed that the source of the inclusions and the controlling methods and the calcium handling purposes, requirements and the effects of the low-sulfur pipeline steel. In addition, it was pointed the necessity of using the technology of hot iron pretreatment and double refining while smelting low-sulfur pipeline steel.

The article analyzed emphasis the major factors of making surface longitudinal cracks on the wide slab and the interaction of each factor. Combined with the actual production of the wide slab, the article optimized the process conditions from the liquid steel quality, mould flux, the SEN's depth of penetration, mould, the first cooling system and the casting speed and the better effective was got at last. Through analyzing, it was thought that when the wide slab was produced, sulfur content was controlled under 0.01% and the peritectic area was avoided extreme, the thickness of liquid flux thickness was over 10 mm, the slag consumption was stable in the 0.5-0.7 kg/t, the SEN's depth of penetration was 110-150 mm, the liquid steel degree of superheat was 15-25°C, the casting speed was stable in the 1.1-1.20 m/min, the copper thickness was over 38 mm, the taper of mould was controlled in the 1.0%-1.2% and the temperature difference of in-out mould water was controlled in the 7-9°C, and the surface longitudinal cracks on the wide slab can be rejected effectively after adopting those measures.

This article makes series of defect analysis by acid-etching, planning, metallographic structure, SEM and energy spectrum analysis on the samples from heavy gauge (≥25 mm) plates, which are failed to pass ultrasonic detection. It is considered that the main reasons for failure to pass the detection are central segregation laminar; intermediate cracks, central hydrogen induced cracks and exotic inclusions. When the heavy gauge plate is produced which compression ratio is less than 6.0 and the detection required, the production process route should be selected which focused on the steel quality, level of macro etching of slab, aging treatment (≥48 h) of slabs at the condition of soft cooling and rolled plates aging treatment (≥24 h). For the liquid steel quality, [H] must be controlled below to 2.0×10 -6, [S] below to 0.010% and total oxygen [O] less than 25×10 -6. And the quality of the slab is mainly decided by the series of process conditions including superheat (15∼25 °C) of liquid steel, cast speed (constant), dynamic secondary cooling system, DSR, mould level control (±4mm) and equipment work conditions of caster.
