Oxygen pressure of work in BOF is decided by nozzle Mach number. Oxygen jet penetration depth of the bath (L) and the bath depth (L0) has an appropriate ratio (L/L0). About 1/3 steel plant's working oxygen pressure is unreasonable in China. According to theoretical analysis and practical experience, working oxygen pressure is usually higher (5%~15%) than stagnant pressure according to Mach. Therefore, shockwave losses of flow jet can be reduced, penetration depth of jet is deeper and nozzle rapid melting caused by negative pressure at nozzle outlet can be prevented. Pressure losses (Δp) caused by oxygen passing through pipeline should be understand during nozzle designing. The influence of the parameters of oxygen lance nozzle and the oxygen conditions on splashing ratio was investigated through water molding. A better understanding was obtained on the effects of oxygen jet to bath by the result which provided a basis for oxygen lance nozzle designing and oxygen supply. The effect of jet of multi nozzle on bath is the result of overlaying of each single nozzle. It is necessary to keep the oxygen lance nozzle designing and oxygen supply within reasonable bounds for a good metallurgical effect. Source

The basic parameters of bath flow were simulated by water model under different blowing conditions of oxygen lance nozzle and conditions of duplex process. The results show that the effect of increasing blowing on shortening mixing time is not obvious when the strength of bottom blowing gas of dephosphorization reached 0.30 m3/(t·min). The mixing time is extended 63% when there is 10% scrap. Decarburization with high strength oxygen supply (5 m3/(t·min)), the splashing ratio can be greatly improved than with normal strength oxygen supply. The splashing ratio is reduced when the holes arranged interlaced nozzle was adopted and the ratio of converter capacity was increased. Source
