An economical method of gold nanoparticles (GNPs) separation using A. indica gum, a natural plant exudate rich in carbohydrates is presented in this communication. A density gradient made up of A. indica gum in different concentrations (10-50%) was layered followed by 1 ml solution of GNPs made using A. indica leaf extract. UV-Vis spectra of GNPs made using A. indica leaf displayed a dual peak at 530 and 718 nm. Dual peaks are characteristics of anisotropic GNPs which was further confirmed by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). After centrifugation for 50 minutes at 4000 rpm, distinct zones were obtained all exhibiting unique spectral properties and morphologies. To validate the results, mixture of gold nano-rods and spherical nanoparticles were centrifuged using the similar method. Results obtained verified the separation efficiency of A. indica gum.
