Two triorganotin(IV) carboxylates [nBu3SnOL]n (KK1) and [Ph3SnOL]n (KK2) have been prepared by the reactions of (E)-3-(4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)acrylic acid (HL) with n(Bu 3Sn)2O and Ph3Sn(OH), respectively. Complexes KK1 and KK2 have been structurally characterized by IR, elemental analysis and X-ray crystallography, confirming that both complexes possess infinite 1D chain structures. It's exciting to discover that KK1 and KK2 exhibit strong solid-state luminescence emission while the HL almost quenches. Furthermore, both complexes were assayed for in vitro antibacterial activity against two Gram-positive bacterial strains (Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6538) and two Gram-negative bacterial strains (Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 13525 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35218) by MTT method. Complex KK2 exhibited powerful antibacterial activities against S. aureus with MIC value of 0.78 μg/mL, which was superior to the positive controls penicillin G. Three novel organotin(IV) complexes with 2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl) acetic acid (HL), of the formulae {[nBu2SnOL]2O}2 (1), [nBuSn(O)OL]6 (2) and [nBu3SnOL]6 (3) were prepared. All compounds were characterized by X-ray crystallography, confirming that complex (1) is tetranuclear one with ladder framework, complex (2) is a hexanuclear organotin(IV) complex with drum structure and complex (3) is a macrocycle with 24-membered stannoxane ring. Furthermore, all complexes were tested in vitro for their cytotoxic activity, using human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (BEL-7402) and human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line (HepG2). Complex (1) displayed the best cytotoxicity and can be pointed out as a promising substrate to be subject of further investigations. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. Source

A new dicopper(I) complex with 2-(9H-carbazol-9-yl) acetic acid (HL) of the formula [Cu2(dppm)2L(NO3)(CH3OH)] [dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane] was prepared. The complex was structurally characterized by IR, 1H NMR spectra, and elemental analysis. Single crystal X-ray crystallography revealed that this complex is monoclinic, space group P21/c, with a = 13.6552(17)Å, b = 23.123(2)Å, c = 19.257(2)Å, α=γ = 90.00°, β= 106.860(2)°, V = 5818.8(11)Å3, Z = 4, DCalcd = 1.386 mg m-3, F(000) = 2512, goodness-of-fit = 1.015. The complex was also tested in vitro for its cytotoxic activity using human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line (BEL-7402) and human hepatocellular liver carcinoma cell line (Hep-G2); 5-Fluorouracil was used as a positive control substance. The results indicated that the complex exhibited good cytotoxic activity against both human tumor cell lines. © 2010 Taylor & Francis. Source

Chitosan nano particles were prepared firstly through the electrostatic interaction between chitosan polycation and sodium tripolyphosphate and then fluorescently-labeled chitosan nano particles was made by the reaction between the primary amino group (2-NH2) of chitosan and isothiocyanate root (N=C=S) of fluorescein isothiocyanate. Finally the effects of reaction time and chitosan concentration on the fluorescence labeling efficiency of chitosan were discussed. The results showed that various reaction times and chitosan concentrations had great effects on the structure and fluorescence labeling efficiency of chitosan nano particles. Source

The mechanical properties and flame retardancy of linear low-density polyethylene/ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) containing magnesium hydroxide sulfate hydrate (MHSH) whiskers and their corresponding un-vulcanized blends (UVBs) were evaluated using static tensile measurements, cone calorimetry and limiting oxygen index (LOI) tests. TPEs exhibited better fire-resistant properties in reducing peak heat release rate and improving LOI values to UVBs. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed that TPE sample left a more compact char after cone test. Results from tensile tests confirmed that TPEs had superior mechanical properties to UVBs due to the better compatibility between MHSH whiskers and polymer matrix. © 2012 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
