The intelligent protection system of smart substation has a variety of sampling and tripping schemes, the research of reliabilities of different schemes protection is significant to choose the best scheme and improve the reliability of protection. This paper established the protection models of the 220KV smart substation line, transformer and bus-bar protection models under typical sampling and tripping schemes, The reliability block diagrams are used to calculate and analyze the reliability, Bayesian network is used to achieve the 'Direct sampling and direct tripping' scheme protection sensitivity analysis, find out the weak link of the protections and optimize the design of the protection and guide the maintenance. © 2013 IEEE. A substation successive trip event of 110 kV bus differential relay and 220 kV transformer differential relay is described in detail. Investigation shows that two fault points are located respectively in the 110 kV bus relay operation zone and the overlap operation zone of bus relay and transformer relay. For the first fault, the 110 kV bus relay trips breaker 101; for the second fault, both the differential relay A and the 110 kV over-current relay B of main transformer operate to trip the transformer breakers at three sides. Suggestions are proposed to improve the reliability of relay operation. Source

A new approach for fault information analysis of relay protection based on expert system is proposed. It adopts the protection startup numbers of the single protection device as the criterion of identifying the grid fault, which is simple and has strong adaptability. The level of voltage sag is used to search for the kernel fault recorder documents, which realizes the automatic identification of the fault recorder documents. The recursive strategy for fault synthetic analysis of grid relay protection is applied to gain the evaluation results, which ensures the rapidity and completeness of this method. The application results in Anhui electric power relay protection and fault information system show its effectiveness. The algorithm as a fault synthetic analysis tool can be applied to a wide range of engineering domains. Source
