A method of handling mangoes includes exposing the mangoes to an atmosphere that contains one or more cyclopropene compounds, and containing the mangoes in a modified-atmosphere package. The method provides an unexpected improvement in maintaining the optimum ripeness of the mangoes over what would be expected based upon the effects observed when either exposing the mangoes to the cyclopropene compound or containing the mangoes in a modified-atmosphere package in the absence of the other.

The present invention is based on the surprising result that packaging materials comprising at least one moisture modulating agent can significantly reduce moisture loss, physical damage, and/or microbial decay of produce. Inclusion of such moisture modulating agent(s) can provide at least one of the following advantages: (1) less disease development as compared to traditional packaging material; (2) fresher, firmer produce with less rot or defects (for example cracking or splitting); (3) better see-through as compared to traditional packaging material; (4) preventing the humidity inside the bag from coalescing into large drops or even pools of water (i.e., less water accumulation or moisture condensation within the package); and (5) providing sufficient gas transmission of oxygen (O_(2))/carbon dioxide (CO_(2)) and/or a quality management agent, for example ethylene or 1-MCP, for better quality control during storage at room temperature (shelf life).

The present invention is based on the discovery of a stable water-in-oil-in-water double emulsion. The double emulsion composition disclosed may contain molecular complex of volatile compounds for example 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). In addition, the double emulsion composition disclosed can provide prolong or controlled release of the volatile compounds.

This invention is based on surprising results that certain concentrations of certain sugars stabilize cyclopropene formulation in aqueous solutions. Provided are compositions comprising an aqueous solution of at least one cyclopropene and at least one sugar. Also provided are methods of using such compositions for inhibiting an ethylene response in a plant.

Provided are compositions comprising a collection of overcoated particles wherein each of the overcoated particles comprises a first coating and a second coating. In one embodiment, the first coating comprises water-insoluble material, for example a fatty compound or a waxy material. In another embodiment, the second coating comprises a water-insoluble polymer or water-resistant film, wherein the water-insoluble polymer of the second coating is different than the water-insoluble material of the first coating. Also provided is a slurry comprising water and overcoated powders provided herein. Also provided is a method of contacting plants or plant parts with a composition or slurry provided herein.

Provided are methods for detecting pathogens affecting meats, plants, or plant parts. Also provided are methods for predicting disease and/or disease management for meats, plants, or plant parts. In some embodiments, methods provided comprise nucleic acid based amplification. Examples of such nucleic acid based amplification methods include quantitative polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) and recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA).

Provided is a method of storing papaya comprising the step of exposing papaya to an atmosphere that contains a cyclopropene compound, wherein either (a) the papayas are in a modified-atmosphere package during exposure to the cyclopropene compound, or (b) the papayas are placed into a modified-atmosphere package after exposure to the cyclopropene compound, and the papaya remain in the modified atmosphere package for at least two hours. In some embodiments, the modified-atmosphere package is constructed so that the transmission rate of oxygen for the entire package is from 200 to 40,000 cubic centimeters per day per kilogram of papaya.

This invention is related to the use of a volatile antimicrobial compound against pathogens affecting humans comprising contacting infected areas with an atmosphere containing an effective amount of a volatile antimicrobial compound in gaseous form. The volatile antimicrobial compounds provided include certain oxaborole compounds, for example benzoxaboroles. Delivery systems are provided to take advantage of the volatile nature of these antimicrobial compounds. The method and use disclosed can be combined with other volatile compounds.

Patent
AgroFresh Inc. | Date: 2016-02-10

This invention is related to compounds and/or compositions useful against pathogens affecting meats, plants, or plant parts. In one embodiment, the provided compounds are products of certain oxaborole moieties. In a further embodiment, the compound comprises certain halogen substitutions on the boron atom. Delivery systems are also provided to take advantage of their fungicidal activity and/or volatile nature of these compounds and/or compositions. In another embodiment, the compounds disclosed have herbicidal activity.

Provided are systems and methods for plant stress mitigation. The systems provided comprises three key components to perform a self-standardized algorithm for identifying/measuring significant stress conditions within a short time window (for example 1 to 3 days). After identification of a significant stress condition, plants under stress can be treated with a composition comprising an ethylene synthesis or perception inhibitor, for example 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP). Also provided are methods for identifying plant genes in response to stress using the system disclosed herein.
