The elastic behaviour of Cr3+ substituted Co-Zn ferrites system; Co0.7Zn0.3CrxFe2-xO4 where x=0.0 to 0.5 in step of 0.1 were prepared by ceramic method. Ultrasonic Pulse transmission method at room temperature was employed to determine the elastic properties of the presently investigated samples. Values of longitudinal and shear wave velocities were increased with an increases in Cr composition x. Using these value of velocities; Young's modulus, rigidity modulus, bulk modulus, longitudinal modulus and Poisson's ratio were calculated. The values of moduli were increased with an increases in Cr composition x. Debye temperature of all sample were calculate using the Anderson equation and it shows increasing trend with an increases in Cr composition x. The behaviour elastic moduli of Co0.7Zn0.3CrxFe2-xO4 are interpreted in terms of bonding force between atoms. © 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Nanocrystalline ferrites with general formula NiFe 2-xCr xO 4 (x=0.0-1.0) were prepared by the wet chemical method. Infrared spectra were scanned in the range of 300-800 cm -1. Three absorption bands were observed in the infrared spectra, the high frequency band ν 1 is assigned to tetrahedral complex, low frequency band ν 2 to octahedral complex and a small band ν 3 is due to Fe 3+O 2- complex. The force constant, bond length, and the Debye temperature was determined by infrared spectra analysis. The force constant and bond length decrease with the increase in Cr 3+ content x which suggests the weakening of the inter atomic bonding. The force constant, lattice constant, and pore fraction have been used to calculate elastic moduli such as stiffness constant, Young's modulus, bulk modulus, rigidity modulus, Poisson's ratio, wave velocity and the Debye temperature. The values of elastic moduli and the Debye temperature decrease with the increase in Cr 3+ content x whereas Poisson's ratio almost remains constant. Results have been explained on the basis of inter atomic bonding. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Stoichiometric compositions of ferrites with the chemical formula Li 0.5-0.5xCoxFe2.4-0.5xDy0.1O 4 with x=0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0 were prepared by the standard double sintering ceramic method. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the cubic spinel structure of the prepared samples. The structural, morphological and magnetic properties were studied by X-ray diffraction, infra-red spectroscopy (IR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) and ac susceptibility measurements. Lattice constant, grain size and density increase whereas porosity decreases with the increase in Co2+ substitution. IR measurements show the characteristic ferrite bands. Spectral absorption bands were observed in IR spectroscopic analysis at ν1=564-601 cm -1, ν2=486-519 cm-1 and ν3= 551-578 cm-1. The cation distribution estimated by the X-ray diffraction is supported by magnetization and susceptibility studies. The saturation magnetization decreases from 44.25 to 17.14 emu/g whereas coercivity remarkably increases from 240.69 to 812.14 emu/g with increasing Co2+ substitution. The low temperature synthesis of Al-Cr substituted MgFe2O 4 ferrite system have been carried out using chemical co-precipitation technique at 60°C. The nanocrystallites of MgAl XCrXFe2-2XO4 ferrite system were characterized by X-ray diffraction technique. The X-ray diffractometer (XRD) showed the formation of single phase cubic spinel structure. Energy dispersive analysis of X-rays (EDAX) showed the composition close to stichiometry of Al-Cr substituted MgFe2O4. The most intense peak (311) of XRD patterns was used to calculate crystallite size of the samples and the crystallite size was found to be about 30 nm. The cation distribution which depends on the method of preparation and chemical composition has been determined by using XRD method. The saturation magnetization and magneton number obtained from hysteresis loop technique decreases as Al-Cr content x increases. The decrease in magnetic behavior is attributed to decrease in A-B interaction. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

The solid complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II) and Fe(III) with Schiff base ligands derived from heterocyclic compounds 3-acetyl-6-methyl-(2H)- pyran-2,4(3H)dione (dehydroacetic acid) and o-anisidine were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, conductance, magnetic, thermal, UV-VIS and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The ligand field parameters have been evaluated for metal complexes which suggest an octahedral geometry for each of them. The magnetic moment and spectral data suggest the dimeric nature of Mn(II) complexes with octahedral geometry. The fungicidal activities of the ligands and their metal complexes have been screened in vitro against Aspergillus niger and the percentage inhibition of the metal complexes is found to be increased considerably than that of their corresponding ligands and the order is Cu > Ni > Fe > Mn > Co.

The structure and crystal phase of the nanocrystalline powders of Ni 1-xCdxFe2O4 (0≤x≤0.5) mixed ferrite, synthesized by wet chemical co-precipitation method, were characterized by X-ray diffraction. Results showed that the lattice parameter increased with increasing Cd concentration. Microstructure was studied by scanning electron microscopy. TG/DTA studies were carried out on co-precipitated sulphate complexes. These studies revealed the low ferritization temperature (650 °C) of the ferrite system synthesized by presently adopted route of synthesis and occurrence of simultaneous decomposition and ferritization processes. Further studies by infrared spectroscopy were also conducted. Moreover, magnetic properties of the prepared nanoparticles were studied by magnetization and a.c. susceptibility measurements. The response of prepared Ni1-xCd xFe2O4 mixed ferrites to magnetic field was investigated. Results show that, magnetic susceptibility, Curie temperature, and effective magnetic moment decreased as the Cd content increases.

Barium hexaferrite nanoparticles have been synthesized successfully by using sol-gel auto-combustion technique. In this process dextrose and citric acid both used as a fuel separately. The ratio of cation to both the fuel was maintained at 1:3 whereas the pH of the sample was kept constant at 8. The particle size for dextrose and citric acid sample is 34 nm and 45 nm respectively. The room temperature hysteresis curve gives maximum magnetization (48.46 emu/g) and coercivity (1.350 kOe) values for dextrose used sample. The dextrose used sample gives better results than that of citric acid used sample. © 2011 American Institute of Physics.

The ground water samples from three different locations were analysed regularly in every month for its Temp, pH, TDS, conductivity NO2, SO4, PO4, DO, Hardness, chlorides, CO2, MPN, Na+, K+ and COD. All values were found to be within permissible limit, except for COD. The values of COD were found to be high. The results reveal that no specific trend can be predicted for seasonal variation at the three stations. The values depend on location of site, its surrounding, depth of ground water tables, geothermal process etc. © Research India Publications.
