This paper presents comparison of three different control strategies to generate reference current components for Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM). Reference currents are tracked by a three-phase voltage source converter in a hysteresis band control scheme. These methods are instantaneous reactive power (IRP) theory, symmetrical component (SC) theory and an improved instantaneous active and reactive current component (IARCC) theory. The performance of three methods has been evaluated under various source voltage and load conditions with new IEEE Standard 1459 power definitions. A comparative study of their performance in terms of rms value of source current, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), supply power factor and compensator ratings is also presented. A three-phase, four-wire distribution system supplying linear as well as non-linear load is considered for simulation study which is carried out using MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Under balanced and sinusoidal source voltage conditions, all three control strategies similar performance while an improved IARCC theory outperforms, particularly, under unbalanced and distorted source voltage conditions. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. Biscuits were prepared by replacing wheat flour with pumpkin powder at different levels viz. 0, 2.5, 5.0 7.5 and 10% (w/w) in the standard formulation. The influence of replacement of wheat flour in biscuit with pumpkin powder in the formulation of biscuit resulted in a significant change in the textural and sensory qualities of biscuits. As the replacement level of wheat flour with pumpkin powder increased from 0 to 10% (w/w), the hardness and fracturability was increased. Biscuit prepared by replacing wheat flour with pumpkin powder at the level of 2.5% (w/w) was found to be more acceptable from sensory point of view and thereafter sensory score was reduced. Biscuits with more pumpkin powder had a more yellow color than those with less pumpkin powder. Adding more pumpkin powder increased the level of carotene in the biscuits.

This paper deals with a Distribution STATic COMpensator (DSTATCOM) for balancing of source currents, power factor correction and harmonic mitigation in three-phase, three-wire distribution system supplying delta connected load under various source voltage conditions. The control strategy applied to the DSTATCOM play a major role in its performance. A novel approach based on an improved instantaneous active and reactive current component (IARCC) theory is proposed for generation of three-phase reference currents for DSTATCOM. A three-phase voltage source converter with a dc bus capacitor is employed as DSTACOM which will track the reference currents in a hysteresis band scheme. The performance of DSTATCOM is evaluated under sinusoidal, unbalanced sinusoidal and unbalanced distorted source voltage conditions. Variation in load current, variation in magnitude and harmonic content in source voltage has been considered. Delta connected linear as well as non-linear load conditions have been considered. The performance of the DSTATCOM using the proposed control strategy is demonstrated using simulation results in MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Simulation results demonstrate the feasibility of proposed scheme for the control of DSTACOM. © 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

This paper presents a novel approach based on an improved instantaneous active and reactive current component theory for generating reference currents for distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM). Three-phase reference current waveforms generated by proposed scheme are tracked by the three-phase voltage source converter in a hysteresis band control scheme. The performance of the DSTATCOM using the proposed control strategy has been evaluated under various source and load conditions. The performance of the proposed control strategy has been evaluated in terms of load balancing, reactive power compensation, compensator rating and harmonic mitigation. A three-phase, three-wire distribution system supplying star connected linear as well as non-linear unbalanced load is considered for simulation study. This study presents a new support vector machine (SVM)-based fault zone identification scheme for busbar which correctly identifies faults occurring inside and outside the protection zone of busbar. The proposed scheme utilises one cycle post-fault current signals of all the lines as an input to SVM. In order to achieve the most optimised classifier, Gaussian radial basis function has been used for training of SVM. Feasibility of the proposed scheme has been tested by modelling an existing 400 kV Indian busbar system in PSCAD/EMTDC software package. More than 28 800 fault cases with varying fault resistances, fault inception angles, fault locations, types of faults and source impedances have been generated and used for validation of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme effectively discriminates between in-zone and out-of-zone faults with very high fault classification accuracy for different fault and system conditions. Moreover, the proposed scheme remains stable during an early and severe current transformer (CT) saturation condition giving an accuracy of 99% for all the fault cases. © 2011 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

This study presents a new support vector machine (SVM)-based identification method which effectively discriminates between various types of fault and power swing conditions. Different power swing cases, fault cases and fault during power swing cases have been generated with varying fault and system parameters using PSCAD/EMTDC software package. The performance of the developed algorithm has been tested over 3510 testing dataset. Using three phase current samples for half cycle duration of each simulation case of post-fault/power swing conditions, an overall classification accuracy of 98.71% is achieved. The proposed scheme is capable to detect faults during power swing condition accurately as the current waveform/signatures for both the cases are entirely different. On the other hand, the conventional scheme do not provide effective discrimination in the said situation as they compare magnitude/phase of the current signals (require pre/post-processing of signals). In addition, conventional scheme gives poor accuracy during unknown system/unseen dataset whereas the proposed scheme provides promising accuracy (97.61%) in the said situation. © 2013 The Institution of Engineering and Technology.

This paper presents Image matching and registration method that is invariant to scale, rotation, translation and illumination changes. The method is named as Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT). This algorithm will detect and describe image features such as contours, points, corners etc. SIFT descriptors are the characteristic signature of the feature. The features calculated from the image to be registered should be distinctive and then it can be matched. It can be useful in object recognition, image mosaicing, 3 D reconstruction and video tracking. The simulation results shows that this algorithm works well in all types of cases having scale and rotation difference, it also register the object having occlusion and clutter background. © 2014 IEEE.

Double pass counter flow solar air collector with porous material in the second air passage is one of the important and attractive design improvement that has been proposed to improve the thermal performance. This paper presents theoretical and experimental analysis of double pass solar air collector with and without porous material. A mathematical model has been developed based on volumetric heat transfer coefficient. Effects of various parameters on the thermal performance and pressure drop characteristics have been discussed. Comparison of results reveals that the thermal efficiency of double pass solar air collector with porous absorbing material is 20-25% and 30-35% higher than that of double pass solar air collector without porous absorbing material and single pass collector respectively. © 2010 Elsevier Ltd.

Considering the potential of flaxseed as functional ingredient, roasted flaxseed flour (RFF) was incorporated by substituting refined wheat flour at 5%, 10%, 15%, 25% and 30% in cookies formulations. Thickness and diameter of cookies increased as flaxseed flour was increased. Addition of flaxseed restricted the spread of cookies. 15% flaxseed flour incorporated cookies were found to be well comparable with control in sensory evaluation. Hardness and fracturability of experimental cookies increased up to 15% flaxseed flour incorporation. Thereafter, both these attributes showed decline trend. Chemical composition showed that moisture, ash, fat and protein content increased in flaxseed flour cookies than control. Fiber content was nine times more in flaxseed flour cookies than the control. Alpha linolenic acid (ALA) content increased from 0.19% (control) to 4.76% in optimized cookies. An improvement in polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acid ratio was observed while ω-6 to ω-3 fatty acid found to be decreased to well below maximum recommended value. © All Rights Reserved.

The effect of process parameters on mechanical properties of Soy protein Isolate based edible film was studied by using response surface methodology. The process variables selected were Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) concentration, plasticizer concentration and pH whereas responses under consideration were thickness of film, tensile strength, Young’s modulus and elongation at break. It was observed that as amount of SPI concentration increases in formulation, the thickness and tensile strength increased while it decreased young’s modulus and elongation at break. However increase in plasticizer amount decreased thickness and tensile strength but it increased young’s modulus and elongation at break. The optimum formulation for meeting the set criteria of response functions was; SPI concentration 8.65%, plasticizer concentration 60%, and pH 8.99. © 2014, Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India).
