In this paper, we propose an adaptive spatio-temporal quality pooling scheme for video quality assessment (VQA) considering the uniformity of distortion distribution and visual attention. A uniformity index is defined according to the distribution of localized distortions in one frame, and is utilized to generate a saliency map from the visual attention model, to incorporate temporal memory effect, and to adaptively pool the localized spatio-temporal quality indices. The proposed scheme outperforms the traditional mean-based pooling scheme and shows competitive performance against well-known VQA algorithms when tested on two publicly available video quality databases. © 2015 IEEE. This paper presents a novel Markov switching state space control model for dynamically switching resource configuration scheme to achieve power conservation for multimedia server cluster systems. This model exploits the hierarchical dynamic structure of network system and its construction is flexible and scalable. Using this analytical model, the problem of power conservation is posed as a constrained stochastic optimization problem with the goal of minimizing the average power consumption subject to the constraint on the average blocking ratio. Applying Lagrange approach and online estimation of the performance gradient, a policy iteration algorithm is proposed to search the optimal policy online. This algorithm does not depend on any prior knowledge of system parameters, and converges to the optimal solution. Simulation results demonstrate the convergence of the proposed algorithm and effectiveness to different access workloads. © 2012 Institute of Control, Robotics and Systems and The Korean Institute of Electrical Engineers and Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg. In this paper, we propose a single channel polyphonic signal separation algorithm based on Bayesian harmonic model and a novel Multi-F0 estimation method. The algorithm estimates Multi-F0 by analyzing the spectrum with a novel Multi-F0 estimation method that consists of two parts. At first, part 1 estimates F0s with no multiple relation, and then the undetected F0s are estimated in part 2. Other audio parameters are extracted by the Bayesian harmonic model which is based on RJMCMC method. The algorithm can be applied to separation of audio mixtures with polyphony of two to four, and experimental results show that the proposed algorithm can separate single channel polyphonic signals effectively. © 2012 IEEE.
