Service technicians traditionally work with static service instructions and technical documents or use their experience to accomplish the service tasks at production plants. However, with the increasing complexity of system topology and behavior, the creation of service instructions requires more technical knowledge and can cause high costs. Nevertheless, the service instruction documents are usually not sufficient because aspects such as system be-havior, variable environment and combination of tasks are not considered. The presented concept aims at the automatic generation of work sequences for service tasks. This task-oriented generation of work sequences provides a dynamic support for service technicians by taking the current system status and the work environment into account. A rule-based approach is tested for a demonstrator that is applied to the service at the Siemens model-plant SmartAutomation. © Carl Hanser Verlag, München. Source
