Thirty species of Cancellariidae in 11 genera from the Miocene Gatun Formation in the Panama Canal area, Caribbean Panama, are discussed including two species not represented by specimens suitable for formal description. The following 11 species are described as new: Cancellaria harzhauseri n. sp., Cancellaria mixta n. sp., Bivetiella dilatata n. sp., Euclia alacertata n. sp., Pyruclia tweedledum n. sp., Pyruclia tweedledee n. sp., Massyla toulai n. sp., Aphera aphrodite n. sp., Axelella cativa n. sp., Agatrix agathe n. sp., Ventrilia coatesi n. sp. This assemblage of cancellariids is very diverse and highly endemic, with 18 (60 percent) species found only in the Miocene Gatun Formation. These assemblages all lie within the Gatunian Neogene Paciphile Molluscan Unit 1 (GNPMU1). Copyright © 2012, The Paleontological Society.

Twenty four species of Cancellariidae belonging to eleven genera occurring in the Neogene Bocas del Toro assemblages, Caribbean Panama, are discussed and figured. The following seven species are described as new: Cancellaria pilula n. sp., Cancellaria isabelae n. sp., Cancellaria stri n. sp., Cancellaria axelolssoni n. sp., Massyla corpulenta n. sp., Aphera trophis n. sp., Admetula valientensis n. sp. The cancellarid genus Charcolleria Olsson, 1942 is considered a synonym of Massyla H. Adams and A. Adams, 1854. Of the 24 species present in the Bocas del Toro, 12 are known also to occur elsewhere in the tropical American Neogene. This level of endemism is high, but not as high as that reported from other Tropical American Neogene assemblages, probably due to the very central geographic location within the Gatunian Province of the Bocas assemblages. The often confused authorship and date (1889) of Rochebrune & Mabille's Mollusques portion of the Mission Scientifique du Cap Horn is explained. Other related papers of the 1880s by the same authors are examined and the Magellanic mollusks they named are listed with remarks on their current status. Comments in the literature about their work are quoted. The source of their material is explained. Copyright© 2010·Magnolia Press.

John Edward Gray was a major figure in zoology in the middle of the 19th Century. An annotated bibliography of his molluscan publications is given with all works collated and dated, with questions of authorship discussed. Genus-group and species-group molluscan taxa introduced by, or incorrectly attributed to, Gray are listed. Family level names are not included as most, gastropods and bivalves, have been recently treated by Bouchet & Rocroi (2005, 2010). The included lists treat 937 genus-group nomina and 1,649 species-group nomina associated with Gray. Action is taken to conserve three names in current use found to be junior synonyms. The genus-group name Basterotia Hörnes, 1859 is declared a nomen protectum over Harlea Gray, 1842, a nomen oblitum. The species-group names Trochus pellisserpentis W. Wood, 1828 and Trochus armillatus W. Wood, 1828 are declared nomina protecta over Trochus emma Gray, 1827 and Trochus henslowi Gray, 1828 respectively, which become nomina oblita. The type species of five genus-group names introducd by Gray are fixed under Article 70.3.2: Euthria, Pirenella, Pusionella, Rissoella, and Tagelus. First Reviser action is taken regarding Anapa Gray, 1842 and Placobranchus euchlorus Gray, 1850. Recurring nomenclatural issues and those too complex to treat within the regular catalogue are discussed in 57 Taxa Notes. The lists are fully referenced with 743 literature titles in addition to the 307 listed for Gray. Copyright © 2012 · Magnolia Press.

Disparities in dating the molluscan taxa introduced in three books by E. J. Petuch are discussed and reconciled. Also addressed is the potential problem in using the copyright date or the Library of Congress Control Number for dating nomenclatural acts that are published in books.
