Objective: To explore the application value of early H-FABP detection for risk stratification and prognosis in early cTnT negative Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) patients. Methods: In 55 patients diagnosed with early cTnT negative ACS, levels of cTnT and H-FABP at 6, 12, 24, 48 hours from onset of symptoms were continuously detected. ROC curve of H-FABP for early prediction of evolution to myocardial infarction in cTnT negative patients was drawn. Patients were followed-up for 12 months and divided into 2 groups according to the presence of cardiovascular events. Level of H-FABP at early onset between patients in 2 groups was compared. ROC curve was adopted to determine H-FABP levels for prediction of cardiovascular events in patients with ACS. Patients were divided into high and low H-FABP value groups according to the cut-off value of ROC curve. Patients with cardiovascular events and no cardiovascular events survival in the 2 groups were observed. Results: Levels of cTnT gradually increased and reached the peak at 12 h after onset of symptoms and then decreased. Levels of H-FABP reached the peak within 6 h from onset and decreased slightly (12.82%) at 12 h and then decreased rapidly. Detection of H-FABP level within 6 h from onset had a good predictive value for early cTnT-negative ACS patients evolving to myocardial infarction. The predicted sensitivity and specificity was 87.5%, and 90.33%. H-FABP level in patients with cardiovascular events was significantly higher than those without cardiovascular events. In the high level H-FABP group, incidence of cardiovascular events was 54.5%, while in the low level group it was only 11.4%. Survival without cardiovascular events of the patients in the high-risk group was significantly lower than that in the low risk group (8.55 ± 1.08 VS. 11.23 ± 1.39). Conclusions: For the ACS patients with early negative cTnT results, H-FABP is a good index for early risk stratification and prognosis. © 2017, E-Century Publishing Corporation. All rights reserved.

BACKGROUND: It remains controversial about the accuracy of MRI evaluation on the graft integrity following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. There are few data recording manifestations and MRI signal intensity changes of healthy surviving ACL grafts at different stages. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the postoperative magnetic resonance (MR) findings of healthy ACL grafts confirmed by second arthroscopic examination. METHODS: A total of 25 patients underwent arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and had a good or excellent postoperative result, including 14 cases of autogenous bone-patellar tendon-bone rafts and 11 cases of autogenous double-loop hamstring grafts. A total of 26 second arthroscopy and 28 MRI were analyzed. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Among the 26 cases of second arthroscopic examinations, there were 22 cases (84.6%) of good synovialization, and the tension of the ACL grafts was normal in 23 cases (88.5%). The major postoperative MR findings of the healthy ACL autografts were low graft with longitudinal streak-increased signal intensity bands, well-preserved continuation, and taut orientation. The signal intensity of ACL grafts showed the same tendency of decrease with time after operation, but it was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). The mean value of sagittal diameter of the ACL graft decreased initially, and increased gradually; the sagittal diameter of the ACL graft tended to be thicker with time after reconstruction, but this result was not significant statistically (P > 0.05).

BACKGROUND: A large number of functional liver cells is the core of bioartificial liver. It is the existing research focus of bioartificial liver to explore a reliable method of cryopreservation of liver cells and to construct liver cell bank. OBJECTIVE: To compare the biological characteristics of C3A hepatocytes that has entered clinical III stage test and L-02 immortalized hepatocytes stored in UW solution at 4°C. METHODS: The C3A hepatocytes and L-02 hepatocytes were adherent cultured, digested by 0.25% trypsinization, prepared into cell suspension, and stored in UW solution. At 0, 24, 48, 72 hours of hypothermic storage (4°C), the cell viability rate and cell apoptosis rate were measured using flow cytometry. Lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotransferase release, the ability of hepatocytes to synthesize urea and secrete albumin were also determined. RESULTS: The cell viability of C3A hepatocytes and L-02 hepatocytes was degraded following the time, but the cell viability of C3A hepatocytes was higher than L-02 hepatocytes (P < 0.01). Cell apoptosis was increased, but there was no difference between C3A hepatocytes and L-02 hepatocytes after 48 hours (P > 0.05). The lactate dehydrogenase and aspartate aminotransferase release were ascended, but the release of C3A hepatocytes was lower than L-02 hepatocytes (P < 0.01). The ability of hepatocytes to secrete albumin was decreased, but the ability of C3A hepatocytes was better than L-02 hepatocytes (P < 0.01). The ability of hepatocytes to synthesize urea was also decreased, however, the ability of L-02 hepatocytes was better than C3A hepatocytes (P < 0.01). Results demonstrated that, the time of the C3A hepatocytes and L-02 hepatocytes which are hypothermicaly stored (4°C) in UW solution should not exceed 48 hours. The artificial liver prepared by C3A hepatocytes is more suitable for the liver function failure combined low albuminaemia, and artificial liver prepared by L-02 hepatocytes fits the liver function failure combined hepatic encephalopathy.

Growing evidence indicates that the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene is an important candidate gene for influencing the development of osteoporosis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential association between genetic variants of VDR gene and bone mineral density (BMD) and osteoporosis in Chinese postmenopausal women. The study included 970 Chinese postmenopausal women at the postmenopausal osteoporosis (482) and healthy controls (488). The BMD of lumbar spine (Lanterior-posterior view), femoral neck hip, and total hip was evaluated using the Norland XR-46 dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA). The genotypes of VDR genetic variants were determined by the created restriction site-PCR (CRS-PCR) and confirmed by DNA sequencing methods. Our data indicated that the VDR p.Glicine (Gly)14 alanine (Ala) and p.histidine (His) 305 glutanine (Gln) genetic variants were statistically associated with adjusted femoral neck hip BMD, adjusted lumbar spine BMD, and adjusted total hip BMD (P values < 0.05). Results from this study suggest that the VDR p.Gly14Ala and p.His305Gln genetic variants are significantly associated with BMD decrease in Chinese postmenopausal women and might be used as molecular markers for assessing the risk of BMD and osteoporosis. © 2015 Wei He et al.

AIM: To characterize the clinical features, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of uveitis associated with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) in Chinese patients. METHODS: Two hundred and three patients with uveitis associated with AS followed-up in the Third Military Medical University Daping Hospital between 2005 and 2010 were retrospectively evaluated in this study. Complete ophthalmological examinations were evaluated at baseline and during the follow-up period. The gender, age, follow-up time, mean frequency of uveitis onset, and accompanying eye examination findings, history, demographical parameters were reviewed. All the patients presented complete clinical and radiologic (sacroiliac, lumbar, dorsal and cervical spine, knee, ankle, shoulder, hip, elbow) evaluation. HLA-B27 typing was also searched. RESULTS: There were 203 patients diagnosed with AS associated uveitis. All showed sacroiliac X-ray changes indicative of AS. There were 184 male and 19 female patients. The average age of patients was 35±12 (range 18-50). Mean follow-up period was 2.4 years (1-5 years). Acute anterior uveitis was the most common type of uveitis in both genders. 121 eyes presented unilateral involvement (55.2%), and 92 eyes presented bilateral involvement (45.3%) with onset alternately. 22 eyes occurred hypopyon, 16 eyes were found anterior vitreous cells, 7 eyes were noted reactive macular edema or exudation, 29 eyes presented posterior synechiae of iris, and 14 eyes presented cataract, 9 eyes presented secondary glaucoma, 2 eyes presented bend corneal degeneration and 1 eyes presented atrophy of eyeball. At the final visit, uveitis was well controlled in most patients. CONCLUSION: AS associated with uveitis in Chinese patients mainly manifests as acute anterior uveitis. a combination of corticosteroids with other mydriasis agents is effective for most AS associated with uveitis patients. We present a case of circumscribed choroidal hemangioma (CCH) in Sturge-Weber syndrome in a 30-year-old woman with congenital port-wine stains on the left side of face involving the upper eyelid, cheek and the nose, and she had undergone facial hemangioma surgery 3 years ago suggestive of Sturge-Weber syndrome. She presented with a 1 -month history of rapidly decreased visual acuity (VA) to counting fingers in the left eye which had no prior history of visual problem . And there was no evidence of glaucoma. At 3 months after the treatment of the standard photodynamic therapy (PDT) the VA was 2 0/200. For some reasons, we have no idea about the changes of tumor thickness and subretinal fluid. We confirmed the curative effect of PDT treatment for CCH because of the significantly improved VA in the bad eye. © International Journal of Ophthalmology Press.
