Favre-Racouchot syndrome (FRS) is a disorder consisting of solar elastosis with the presence of multiple cysts and open comedones. Although the exact mechanism of the condition is not known, FRS has been specifically connected to sun exposure, smoking and radiation exposure. The histological changes present in FRS reveal an atrophic epidermis and large masses of keratinous material, causing follicular plugging, as well as solar elastotic changes and possible basophilic degeneration of connective tissue. Herein, we report an unusual case of FRS concurrent with chronic granulomatous reaction and review relevant published works. © 2014 Japanese Dermatological Association. Source

Tuberous sclerosis is a genetic multisystem disorder characterized by widespread hamartomas in several organs. Clinically, more than 90% of affected patients have skin lesions including facial angiofibromas, periungual fibromas, hypomelanotic macule, etc. Periungual fibroma is one of the major diagnostic criteria of tuberous sclerosis and has the same pathology (angiofibroma) as the facial papules. We herein describe an interesting histologic variant of angiofibromas coupled with multiple epidermoid cysts in a 33-year-old patient with tuberous sclerosis. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons A/S. A case of congenital folliculosebaceous cystic hamartoma in infant is reported. A 2-year-old infant presented with a gradually growing papule on the right face at birth. Physical examination showed a hemispherical reddish well circumscribed papule, with a diameter of 0.8 cm, and a crusted surface. Histopathological examination showed many enlarged deformed folliculosebaceous cystic structures in the upper dermis, and numerous proliferated sebaceous lobules radiated from the deformed cystic follicular structures. There were clefts between the stroma and the cystic tissue. Moreover, disseminated ectopic adiocytes and deposits of mucoid substance were found in the stroma. Congenital folliculosebaceous cystic hamartoma was diagnosed. Source

Summary Porocarcinoma is an unusual, locally aggressive and potentially fatal neoplasm. Several cutaneous malignancies have been described in association with porocarcinoma, including squamous cell carcinoma, basal cell carcinoma and tricholemmal carcinoma. Previous reports have indicated that the occurrence of malignant tumours in combination with porocarcinoma is extremely rare, in particular with regard to Bowen disease (BD). We report an uncommon case of porocarcinoma occurring synchronously in a single BD lesion in a 63-year-old woman with multiple BD lesions. Objective To investigate the effect of doxorubicin loaded magnetic nanoparticles (DOX-MNP) on reversal of multidrug resistance in human osteosarcoma cell line R-OS-732 in vitro.Methods The cellular uptake and intracellular distribution of DOX-MNP were visualized by virtue of the intrinsic red fluorescence of doxorubicin under a fluorescence microscopy. The inhibitory effect of DOX-MNP on proliferation of R-OS-732 cells was assayed by MTT method. The influence on apoptosis of DOX-MNP was analysed using Annex in V-FITC/PI staining by flow cytometry. Results Compared with free doxorubicin, DOX-MNP showed more intracellular uptake, increased accumulation in the nucleus and enhanced antiproliferative effect against R-OS-732 cells. DOX-MNP showed increased necrosis rather than apoptosis in R-OS-732 cells. Conclusion DOX-MNP has pronounced antiproliferative effect against multidrug resistant human osteosarcoma cells in vitro, providing a new strategy for reversal of multidrug resistance. Source
