The world's developing nations are aimed towards economic growth through mining projects, while radical environmentalists are aimed to hold these countries to First-World green standards. While stressing the speculative danger of technology, these environmental groups ignore the real, immediate life-or-death dangers that can be prevented by modern mining, development, and technology. Mark Dowie has claimed that the biggest threat to the world's indigenous population is not logging, mining, and oil drilling, but environmental conservation. It is found that the total area of land under conservation protection worldwide has doubled since 1990, with over 12% of all land now protected. The 1992 United Conference on Economic Development, Rio de Janeiro, contemplated on the subject of Americans and Europeans march in defense of animals, forests, and ecology.

Longer life. Less disease. Less disability. The trends have continued for more than a century as humans have become bigger, stronger and healthier. But can they - will they - keep going? Or is there some countertrend, obesity or an overuse of medications, perhaps, that will turn the statistics around? 1 Certainly, the way things are going these days obesity is a strong factor not only on the horizon but at present times.

In modern medicine, diagnosis based on smells has been suppressed for many years as being subjective and unreliable. Due to new or improved analytical methodology, smell-based diagnostics is undergoing a revival. Having quantitative and very sensitive analytical methods at hand, it has become possible to develop smell-based medical diagnoses. Anton Amann predicts, "The fast development of analytical techniques will lead to reliable, miniaturized devices useful for the clinical practitioner in many medical fields in the next years."4.

A sign on one display at the terra cotta warrior site in China says that soldiers' swords were chromium plated with a thickness of 10 to 15 microns and that Germans and Americans first used chromium plating in 1937 and 1950, but that China first used it2,200 years ago. What do you think?

Jack W Dini shares his views on the incidents of animal attack in America. Around 200 Americans are killed each year when their vehicles collide with deers. The Langley and Morrow report that from 1979 through 1990, there were 1,882 animal related deaths in the United States. Venomous animals caused 718 deaths while non-venomous animals caused 1,164 deaths, resulted in an annual average of 157 deaths. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports that each year, 800,000 Americans seek medical attention for dog bites and 386,000 require treatment in an emergency department and about 16 die. Car crashes involving deer cause an estimated 1.1 billion in vehicle damages. Deer damage to agriculture in New York was between $ 58 million and $60 million in 2003. The deer numbers in Georgia have increased from 12,000 in 1937 to more than million 2000.
